KIRKLAND, WA - December 3, 2001 (INB) -- BetterThanDiamond.com, the creators of the Asha(TM) diamond simulant, is pleased to announce another R&D milestone with the successful creation of the first samples of Asha(TM) coated with a seamless layer of DLC (diamond-like carbon). The diamond coating was applied via a proprietary negative ion beam sputter process.
The DLC coated Asha(TM) are not intended for commercial release at this time, as this milestone is only the first of many before any commercial application. Rather, they are the result of continued research in conjunction with a recognized commercial leader in thin-film deposition. BetterThanDiamond.com continues to actively pursue R&D to ensure that the Asha diamond simulant remains the premier choice for those consumers seeking the ultimate in diamond beauty at 1/25th the typical cost.
"The creation of these first samples is the culmination of six months of effort from several PhD scientists. Dr. Hinthorne, a member of our scientific advisory board, deserves credit for starting this research effort after noting that Asha(TM) had a nearly perfect 2:1 unit cell match between it and diamond (thus creating an ideal substrate for diamond coating). The samples are proof-of-concept, and significant additional testing is needed before it may be offered commercially," noted BetterThanDiamond's president, Less P. Wright.
