I think there is more than one method of producing lab stones. One is more expensive than the other.

In this tread, Less explains how it is with rubies, it's probably the same with sapphires since they are the same chemical compound in different colours.

Also, I have to note; I have not seen Chris' lab sapphires, so I can't vouch for them, but they look amazing in the pictures.
