#197638 - Reverse frosting GRAY hair - Anybody?

Hi all!
I recently decided that it was time to stop dying my hair. I've been in the blonde L'Oreal family for YEARS! I let my hair go without dying it for about three months and then cut all my long blonde hair off. I now have a short pixie type cut that is VERY salt and pepper. My daughter keeps telling me that my natural salt and pepper hair color is making me look MUCH older. I didn't pay much attention to her comments until ..... I was at TJMaxx the other day and was given the SENIOR CITIZENS discount --- and the salesclerk didn't even ask me if I was old enough to qualify for it!!!!!!! Sooooooooo ... I guess I DO look much older with salt and pepper hair. I'm 48 years old and while I don't mind getting older, I don't want to look 10 years older than I really am!
Now, here's the question. Have any of you ever done reverse type frosting on gray hair? You know, put color back in rather than take it out. I really don't want to go back to dying my whole head, as it is much more maintenance than what I want to do. My natural hair color (what's left of it) looks much, much darker than it used to be --- almost black. Maybe it's just the contrast with the stark white. Anyway, I was thinking of putting dark streaks back in. Has anybody here done that to their gray hair and had good luck with it? Please help an old gray haired woman with what to do!!

No, but what you can do is go to a beauty supply store, get the necessary stuff for frosting (the cap, a bowl, a brush, etc.), and get a box of the Loreal Excellence (made specifically for more that X% gray hair), and use the dark dye as you would frosting. Just make sure to get a well fitting cap, or the dye won't be that close to your scalp.

Another option is to go to a salon and have them do it.

Yes you can get it weaved or foiled, they only dye some of the hair, like frosting but they apply another color. My Grandma has it done and it looks totally natural.
