Have you had a thyroid check lately? Insulin resistance test? Those may be a culprit. (along with many others)

I eat so much, year round...boredom is the biggest problem. Something in my head says "oh you are bored go eat something". And I hate to work out. Sweating makes me want to vomit. Very little makes me more uncomfortable.

Talk about compulsive over eating...I finally decided to be brave and step on the scale, something I have not done in months. As I know I have gained quite a few lbs I was shocked by the number. My first thought was that the scale was mis-calabrated. Then I thougth about the amount of food and bad choices I have been making. For me it is dining out way too much. I am going to join WW today and stop procrastinating. For the hour I have just spent reading these posts and sipping coffee, I could have been working out. I need to lose 60 lbs by October for my wedding. Have gained 17 pounds since November.

Good luck SUEQ, that is serious goal (60 lbs in 7 months), but very possible. Puting it on is so horrible. I have had my levels checked within this past year and everything is normal. I upped my exercise to twice daily as much as possible (this week I started it) and my body really aches. I think the winter months and not having a real job prospect or offer yet has compounded the weight issues for me. Spring typically turns things around for me. I have the urge to not look like a stuffed sausage anymore. I will check out that diet that Diamondlil suggested, thank you. I'm off to work off stress and hopefully fat. Thanks for the great feedback guys. I truly appreciate it!!

Flanderslover, have you read any of Geneen Roth's books? I've found them to be very helpful. I go through periods where I tend to obsess over food and I overeat. I know that I don't need a diet as much as a need to get a grip on the emotional causes of my eating.

Here is a link to some of her books on Amazon in case you are interested.

I sooo agree with you...or I eat lots of crap and then worry about it later. I need to start eating healthier, especially when I'm on my own. I'll pick at whatever's in the fridge then spend the night snacking instead of eating a full meal. Or I eat the wrong thing, like Creme Eggs!

I also wanted to suggest that you change whatever sweetener that you use. I have an over 40 metabolism and have somehow managed to lose weight and I think it's because I switched sweetener from Splenda to Stevia (and I also have been walking 5 miles a day 6 days a week on my treadmill).

I didn't realize that the Splenda was making me hungry and eating all day until I switched. I use it in my coffee in the morning and afternoon, and occasionally in my iced tea.

This is my secret weapon to controlling my blood sugar so that I don't overeat. I notice a difference when i drink pop with splenda in it...I tend to eat all day. The correlation is amazing for me! And I didn't realize it until I went off of it. I know splenda is not supposed to raise blood sugar, but it is made from sugar and it just does not work for my metabolism.

Just something to think about...and the same goes for aspartame. it just does not agree with me and makes me eat all day.

I am a compulsive over eater. People don't understand the addiction. If you drink alcohol you get help and possibly stop, but food you have to have to live so you see it every day. I work out 5 days a week, I'm about 15 pounds over my ideal weight. Not too bad but I know I could be thinner if I would lay off the sweets. I eat when I'm happy, sad, stressed, and hungry.

The very first thing you need to do is change the way you shop.

    Don't go grocery shopping while hungry;
    Make a grocery list and stick to it (don't put junk on the list!)
    Stock up on healthier choices such as lots of fresh fruits, veggies, low cal/carb snacks such as rice cakes, cereal bars, yogurts, salad ingredients, flavored waters, etc.

If you don't have the junk in the house, you are less tempted to eat poorly. There are also negative calorie foods that you can fill yourself up on (such as cucumbers), and don't have to feel guilty about eating.

If you live in an area where you can actually take a walk around the block, try going for a walk when you feel like eating. Tell yourself you must walk for at least 15 minutes before you can have a snack. Its worth a shot!
