Thanks, M_G. The green "marcasite" ring looks like the stone's in the tsavorite family... It's gorgeous, whatever it is! I totally lurve the opal in the setting it's in. How wonderful to have such a lovely sentimental reminder of your childhood friend!

Mmmmmm, I'm glad to see other opal lovers too!
And now that I'm thinking of it, it really doesn't look like marcasite at all, does it? Hmm. It is silver, and the side stones have a green tinge to them - maybe glass? Ugh, I'm going to order a loupe and some gemology books! or you can always have a jeweler look at it for you?

Yeah, those are definitely NOT marcasite. Maybe Peridot? very common for that time period with other green stones. Absolutely DROP DEAD GORGEOUS whatever it is!!! I wouldnt even care! I would be sporting that ring every day! And the opals....OMG. I think that I need to copy your earrings if I have your permission!!!!!! Put a little spin on it and put some single cut diamonds running up above the opals in the yellow gold........May I? Absolutely!! That sounds amazing! I bought these in Whitby the a jet store there - couldn't find any jet that I wanted but the opals grabbed me. Can't wait to see the pics!
