Umm, be careful, please!
This sounds really extreme even if you were to do it under a physicians care!
I know this can be done, my mother didn't eat and drank nothing but water for over a month - but she wasn't well afterwards. Gosh, and your going to fly to Germany and be in new situations with important new people! I would just be concerned about the potential stress of this trip and its effect on your body after you've abstained from eating for so long.
I think you will lose a crazy amount of weight - but for your health I'm glad to hear you are going by how you feel.
Just wondering, did you gain weight back quickly after the last time you fasted?

I hope it goes well for you!
I never had really bad habits until my pregnancy, whereupon I gained 58 pounds. I KNOW those ties are hard to break!
I'm all for the raw diet! Good luck, Amethyste.

What about at least adding in a vitamin to help give your body some extra help with the things you may not realize you are missing out on. Maybe that will help with the tiredness too. Please, do be careful.

Ames just make sure you stay hydrated...I'm just worried that being on a long international flight, stuck in an airplane for hours (I hate that recycled air!) might hit you pretty hard.
Just don't put too much pressure on yourself, okay? Your new family should love you just the way you are (heck, you already knew that but I just thought I'd say it again) and expectations always run high but don't let it get to you!

Hey Ames I just started a fruit/veggie fast today too. I plan on a 21 day. Mine is mostly to detox but I could stand to shed a couple of pounds. Are you drinking store bought juices or juicing your own? My sil has a distiller, she gave me a couple gallons of water to help me through.
Good luck!

Hello sweet ladies, Well, I am drinking juice IN distilled water ( diluted ) and today I ate some vegetable broth. I don't feel tired or weak, just a major pounding headache cause I am detoxing myself from caffeine. I am taking 2 multi vitamin a day just to make sure I get my daily doses. I have a juicer at home, but right now, the fruits and veggies are not in the best seasons so, I get the organic vegetable juice and other blend at the local grocery store. I got some lemon/ginger and euchannecia ( sorry for the spelling ) and it tastes wonderful. I think I am ingesting about 400-600 cal a day. I promise you gals, if I feel that I am going to die, I'll eat something ok? :):) I might break my fast after 15 days to eat a couple days with good food like raw nuts and salads and perhaps some soy too... Thank you all for your concerns

i'm glad you are feeling okay, but please be careful...watch your fluid intake and "out-take" very carefully, it will give you a lot of hints about how your body is doing. Usually, patients who need fast weight loss are only put on 7-10 day fast, tops...

Day 4 - I feel awesome... Keep on drinking the diluted juice through out the day... By keeping my stomach full - I really dont feel hungry. I ate some broth tonight - I added a little bit of chickpeas in the soup - its great. You know, it feels so nice to not having to think about eating. I love this "mental" vacation.
Day 5 is coming and I am looking forward to it. Oh... I forgot to mention - I sleep like a BABY. I feel refreshed in the morning - not groggy. So that's great. And my knee doesnt hurt in the morning... Yay!
I developed RA over the summer, and found when I changed my diet (and lost 13 pounds) my symptoms decreased dramatically. What we eat really does effect how we feel.
Great to know you're doing well on your fast...

Fasting has been used for various medical conditions. A few years ago I went on the South Beach diet - and cut out all the carbs, sugar, and coffee. I lost weight pretty much instantly and a lot of skin issues I was having went away. Also the weight I lost didn't come back. Once I saw how wonderful this diet was I looked into fasting. Now 4 times a year I a juice fast and it truly is amazing how much better you feel! Once you get past the first 3 days!

Sorry I am late to this post but GOOD FOR YOU!!! I am actually doing a fast also. I do it a little different but as long as you follow your body and how it is reacting you should be fine. I have been fasting for only 2 days now but already feel better. The key is to stay healty and hydrated.
Question, is distilled water really better than spring or bottled water? My husband has been wanting to buy a distiller for us to make our own water. He prefers it. He is in the Navy and when he goes to sea (on submarines) the water they drink is distilled. (The boat takes on sea water and makes fresh water with it which in turn is distilled.) He says he feels better drinking distilled water. What do you think?

Missing - Distilled water is great especially if you are fasting or detoxing because of its low viscosity it gets into places plain water cannot and helps to eliminate nonorganic toxins from your body. Although, there is the debate that drinking distilled water can depleat the body of essential minerals.

Hello ladies, Well this is day 15 - yesterday - I went to a "Tastefully Simple" home show and it was really cool. I "broke" my fast by eating some cucumbers and celery - a 1/2 cup of bean soup. Altough I felt really good - this morning, my stomach is NOT agreeing with it. I should have had protein instead - but it wasnt available to me in my situation. Today - I am going to have a small piece of chicken with a small salad. Tomorrow, its back to it for another 14 days. But the amazing thing happened to me yesterday... I have melted significantly through this 14 day juice fasting. I have not felt WEAK ONE second of it. I have felt better and at peace with my mind and my body. For the first time in my life, I felt that I was totally connected. I enjoyed waking up in the morning and drink my distilled water with diluted juice. THat's all I had to worry about and I think in the course of the whole month, I would have saved myself 2-300 $$$ in grocery costs. No pills to take ( well a multi vitamin in the mid-afternoon ) and no products to buy. I wanted to try Phentermine, but the cost was a lot and the possible side effects bothered me enough to cross that off my options. People for years have fasted to cure themselves from deseases, to menatally feel more alert and to become closer to the things that really matter in life. Not only I have felt better, I became more compassionate and more aware of my surroundings. My voice has never been better and I can even reach notes I have never been able to in my life. I got rid of that "nasty phlegm" that was coating my vocal coards. the white of my eyes have somewhat turned to a whitish-blue and my skin has regain elasticity. I really hurt my ankle 3 months ago by spraining it - now there is no pain anymore - I have regained the flexibility that I thought I have lost. I also have psoriasis on my right elbow and a wide patch in my scalp. For anyone who has this condition, it is painful. It itches and sometimes breaks and bleed. WEll ladies, the fast has considerably reduced the redness and the area on where my skin is affected. I bet by the end of my fast, it will be almost gone. And to make this even more unbelievable... I have a 20% hearing loss in my right ear. Well, unless I am started to turn "loco", my hearing has improved considerably. I know that for a fact, cause I have a special pair or headphone for recording - on wich I have a volume control for each side. I have had to lower the volume on my right each to almost 1/2 that it was before. This long fast has changed me. For the better. I did this fast at first for pure vanity - to lose weight. But I gained so much more. On top of losing weight - I gained my health and my self back... I have decided that after my fast and I come back from Germany - I will do another 2 week fast ( cause you know it, I'll be fed saussages and lots of food ), and then every week, I'll do that Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and eat GOOD and HEALTHY food the rest of the time. I think i have cured myself from these food preoccupations I have been having since my childhood. When my family problems would get really bad, I'd turn to eating to comfort myself. I know you guys probably think i am crazy, but trust me I saw the changes happening in myself and I cant believe it. It's the best thing I have ever done for me. THanks for reading

BA - when starting a fast you need to be careful. I am not familar at all with the master cleanse/lemon aide diet. So I may be speaking out of turn - please forgive me. A fast should be entered into slowly usually over the coarse of a couple of days to 1 wk if its your first time.
Due to the chemical build up in our systems the first 3 days starting can be really rough if you enter into it to quickly and at this point is when most quit.
For me I start by cutting out meat the 2 days later breads and grains then sugars and snacks while uping my veggie intake so by the time I start I am already in the mind set of not eating. You also need to be careful with citrus while fasting the acidity can cause some discomfort.

Don't worry, I've started doing just that. One of first thing I started eliminating from my diet is the caffeine, as that was going to be the most difficult thing to give up. I had a dull headache for two days, but today, no headache. I stopped eating wheat products, i.e. breads, cereals, pastas, and anything else with wheat two weeks ago. Over the past two weeks, I have really been monitoring my dairy intake to about 1 full serving of milk, cheese or yogurt every other day, if that much at all. So don't worry, I'm not jumping inot this blindly.
Someone else had posted a link to the master cleanse, if you wanted to read up on it. It is a fast, but it does incorporate some calories, so it isn't a pure water fast. I plan to regulate my caloric intake to at least 600/day.

I am strating my 3rd week and I am actually bouncing off the walls I have so much energy, it's crazy! This week I will start re-introducing foods. Alot of times people can pin point the foods that are causing acne, depression or joint pain. For me I think processed foods and sugars were bogging me down!

No, please don't fast while you're breastfeeding! You'll endanger your ability to produce milk, and it's not good for you or your baby!

The ladies are right. They say that while you are releasing your toxins, it is very likely that the toxins can be released into your breastmilk.

At the risk of offending people, does the juice fast give you the runs? How could it not, just curious. I hate to be gross but bathroom visits are a fact of life. Is that how it works, it just clears out your intestines to start with. Thanks for the info.

about the pics! ame, we've already seen your before photos! you posted two, yeah? and you've got a bunch on your myspace! (and beautiful music on your myspace, btw!)
yeah, i wanted to see some after photos, too!
something i've been thinking about is the fact that your ankle doesn't hurt - that aches and pains are cured when fasting ... it's just fascinating how the body works! i am assuming that this has to do with the body breaking down your own tissues and releasing endorphins to raise the pain threshold thereby easing your other pain ... is anyone here well-versed in neuroscience? i would be interested to know how this works ... i guess i could look it up.
if my assumption is correct ... does this mean that the opiate receptors will eventually "short circuit" - or is this a process that can be continual?

I have known someone who cured herself from muscle pains in her back due to a car accident by fasting... When your body is forced to actually break down your own fat to live - your body goes into "deep" cleansing. the "bad" cells are not "fed" to grow - they are force to shrink and be disposed by the natural way of elimination. THat happens to you when you have the flu - or a bad cold. You instinctively do not eat - nothing sounds or appeal to you. Your body is forcing you to fast so it can cure itself from the infection. Fasting is the oldest and one of the best method out there to give your body relief. When you fast, you do not just lose bad cells, you are also repairing "things" in your body that was not functionning properly for a long time... Amazingly, your body function on bare minimum, but somewhat uses its reserve efficiently. It is true that the first 5-6 days, your body will use "muscle" to feed itself. But its a normal progression. It goes from glucogen ( stored in the liver for immediate fuel ), then to what is in your stomach and intestines, then to your muscle and then - when your body switches to Ketosis, you'll be burning almost pure fat. When i say that the body go through a small period of catabolism, I am tlaking about 40 to 75 Grams of muscle/protein. Its not a whole lot. BUT if you exercie and be careful, you can always rebuild. So when people say its not a good thing to fast, because if the protein being used from your body, I chuckle cause when they say that, they usually have a huge handful of chips or frenchfries. To each its own. I am happy with what is going on right now in my body. I am not deprived. I have felt hunger. I have gave in. I have drank a small glass of juice instead of having it diluted in distilled water. I am not crazy, I just listen to my body. It will tell me I am readyto eat sooner or later. When you fast, one thing I have really been pleased with, is that you are more attentive to your body's needs. So it may be resting more or more quiet time - or meditation etc... It's a great vacation for the body, mind and heart. Anyone wanting to do a fast and wants help or have any questions, please do not hesistate to email me. Fasting is really hard - it is NOT for everyone. It's not easy the first 3 days. but if you do it like I did - it will be a breeze... Fasting will allow you to "feel". It actually changed me - I hope for the better. Nabi, THank you for your kind comments about my music. Its very inspiring

HEllo Ladies... I am still going strong at it. I have not ate anything since that chicken last time ( alsmot 7 days ago ). I have no headaches - no weakness. I feel totally energized and the only sad thing now, is that my ring is spinning all the time I am fitting into a size 12 with room inside... I think I was closer to an overfilled size 14. I think I have probably lost close to 25-30 pounds. I am planning to do this for another 8 days. Then I'll be breaking my fast with veggies, lean proteins like fish - I will be cutting out all processed food, no more "un-natural" sugar ( refined )I decided that if I crave carbs - I will allow myself brown rice and/or wild rice. I just want to break this cycle of crappy eating... I just want to be healthy. CRAVE the good foods. I will do my best to lead a more healthy life style. I decided that Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday, I'll be doing my juice fast and the rest of the week, to eat good and nutritious foods. I am eaxcited to jump onto this new chapter of my life.. THe only problem, when I am done fastig, I'll be in Germany. It will be hard to eat "right" since I am staying at his parents and I'll be fed amazing foods. So I am not going to be too hard on myself. I'll "TRY" my best to make good choices. When I come back from Germany, I might fast again in order to jump into my new lifestyle. The thing that bothers me, is that now my beautiful ring is spinning. Its actually quite annoying. I think now, I went from a size 6.25 to a 5.5 on my ring finger. It's amazing how much I retained water before... Now, I feel normal. My body feels normal. Before when I was eating all this junk, my body felt always "gross" and my state of mind never felt peaceful. One thing I think was amazing, was to see some of the wrinkles under my eyes, almost vanish. THey are still there but they have considerably reduced. I had a friend of mine ( who is a esthetician ) looks at my skin under a magnifying lanp before I started my fast, and I had her look at it today and she couldn't believe the difference she saw in my skin - she said my skin gained almost a 50% elasticity back and that my wrinkles are alkmost gone. I think that alone is amazing. My cellulite, has diminished too. I am just amazed at all the transformations my body went through in the last 20 days... I am so happy that I decided to give this a shot. I am so pleased by how I feel... I'll take a picture of myself and post it in a second...

Be sure to GRADUALLY reintroduce food into your system, to avoid any embarassing bathroom circumstances upon travel I honestly think I love food too much to ever be able to do this fast. I haven't even been able to fast for a day!I do need to lose about 15 pounds though.

Well ladies, I did it. I managed to break my fast tonight with broiled chicken and a small glass of soymilk. I felt great through out my entire fast. I am actually sad to let it go... I felt vibrant, full of energy, I slept amazingly good and I was always in an awesome mood. I recommend anyone who wants to purchase the following book: Miracle of fasting by Dr. Bragg It gives you important aspects of fasting and how it has been a natural way to cure yourself from many ailments throughout the human history. I feel so good. I lost 32 pounds in 29 days. THe book gives you a detailed diet on how to NOT gain the weight back, which is mostly a raw food diet. No processed food. I think the whole book makes a lot of sense... I am leaving for Germany Tuesday Feb 6th. I need to get my butt packing - but I wanted to give an update. THank you for following this thread - it has been an amazing journey - especially for my will power and the fact that I regained control of myself...

How amazing... congratulations! You're leaving for Germany today - bon voyage! You have inspired me as well. I am breastfeeding right now but whenever my daughter weans I am seriously considering trying to do a fast. I have been eating like hell for a long time and I always feel awful. If I could experience even a little bit of the body connectivity and increased awareness, happiness, better sleep, etc. that you have - I would be amazed! Thank you for posting about your amazing experience.

Okay, now I have to do a "Skeptic's Testimonial":
First off, when Ames first posted this, I thought, "Yeah...sure." I am 46, post-menopausal, and have the worst (most efficient) metabolism on earth and probably the least willpower.
Taking all of that into consideration; I also hated whenever I heard someone say something like, "...and the weight just melted off". Again, "yeah....sure."
I had already been dieting for a month when I decided to go ahead and try this & I'm not sure what is going on, but I have never been consistently losing weight like this in my entire life! And, I'm not even doing this strictly, as you can tell from my prior post. I don't think this is water weight, because I had already lost some; but THIS is a whole different story.
I never believed in fad diets; always believed in slow, easy and healthy. I'm sure individual results vary; but this works, even for an old, hormonally challenged lady like me! (And, I'm not calling this a fad, believe me.) This does seem very healthy.
I DO NOT feel hungry, I've only just begun---AND THIS IS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! It's like a miracle. He##, IT IS MIRACULOUS.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU
From a true "Skeptic".

I have been fasting with ALoe Juice, once a week and the results are amazing. My head is so much clearer and my baby weight is starting to slip right off.
Thank you Ames for posting about your amazing journey.
I am thinking about going twice a week, but it might be hard because of my family life.

I have become a distrubutor for this particular product that I've been using. Once my website is set it will be listed in my tag line. For now though ladies, I will pm you info when I get home from work. I'll tell you how to get it if you'd like to try it.
It's not that I don't want to share my info with everyone, I do...but I am waiting for Less to approve. I've been on a wicked roller coaster ride with my health and I'd like to share my exerience because I KNOW other women are suffering the way I was. In time, I will write about it.

Add me to your PM list, please! You will probably be getting several requests...so it might be a good idea to PM people to get email addresses and then you can send out 1 email instead of retyping it to everyone...just a thought Thanks in advance! ~Monica

DarlingMom, that is a great idea. Thank you. yes, whoever is interested PM me your email address and I will write you. It's not that I intend to be secretive, I just truly respect this board, the owner, the members and the mods and wouldn't want to do anything against the rules. I am not trying to push products. I've simply had a wonderful experience, so much so that I chose to be a distrubutor because I want to bring them to my friends and family. Also, because I use the products, I wanted the discount! lol I have to thank Amethyste once again for posting about her journey. In time I will get to mine. My saga was on-going at the time of this post, but it got me thinking about the benefits of fasting.

I sent out an email to those who asked. If you did not receive it, let me know. Maybe I copied the address wrong.
