I'm totally wavering with the die struck Classic Tiffany ring. I don't know which is better - 4 prong or 6 prong? Is it set really low? Can I get set low if it isn't?

TIA!

I've always heard that a six prong offers more security, if one prong fails the five remaining will still hold the stone. On a four prong, if one prong fails, the stone can easily fall out. I have also heard that a six stone offers more protection to the stone, you are likely to bang metal rather than stone if you hit something.

I've heard a few stories about lost diamonds from four prong settings, hope this helps!

I had a four prong ring (1 ct solitaire) that I chipped, due to hitting the edge of my ring accidentally. It was about the same height as the Retro Tiffany is.

I chose the 6 prong because it gives more protection of the edges and unless it's a close inspection, it's not noticeable. Not many people other than yourself will be "up close and personal" with your ring. Or will they?!! It IS a gorgeous ring.

Are you choosing the H or E color?

Six is the only choice for that ring because the head is part of the casting. Also, the depth of the round that you choose determines the height of the ring.

DOH, I was thinking peg head choice when I replied.

Yes, that style of ring only offers 4 prong, but it appears that the prongs are integrated into the ring, and I would assume that would be stronger when holding the stone.

OK, I am really messing up, that ring is the SIX prong, not four.

Thanks for the help!

I am probably going to get the 1.5 RB H color.

If the 6 prong is better than the 4 prong, I really should be careful with the 4 prong that I have at home!

Ooooooo, that ring is gonna look divine! My jeweler told me the same thing about 4 versus 6 prongs, but if you get the ring checked out every 6 months or so you should be hunky-dory. A prong isn't just going to give up one day spontaneously. I personally like the symmetry of the 6 prongs, I find it very pleasing to the eye. My RB has 4 prongs, I inherited it. I would prefer that it had 6 prongs, but the head on it is so incredible- it has those dainty-little-skinny-Leon Mege-like claw prongs.

MrsFrk - Ooooh! I love those dainty claw Leong Mege prongs! Those are so beautiful! I wonder if those are prone to getting loose too, even more so than the regular ones?
