I'm looking at moissanite rings - both for myself and for a friend who is going to ask his gf to marry him but doesn't want to spend a fortune on a ring (she knows that he's considering moissanite and is very excited about it - so no deception here). Does anyone have pictures of their moissanite rings? Have you noticed any greenish tints?

As long as you get your mois from Bella or Moissanite Co, I don't think you have to worry about greenish tints. I love mine. My e-rings in the Gallery both have mois centers and absolutely no green tint. They are both from Bella.

I have an oval that isn't from either of the above companies, and it shows a tiny bit of tint, but the sparkle and beauty are so much that you don't even notice it. From what I've seen, the rounds seem to show less color. I saw a marquis in person, and man were the pointy ends yellow looking! And it was only .75ct size!

I've posted several pics here. Search moissanite and author AdaBeta27. Mine are unusual: 6.5mm set in sapphire halo, huge 7.5mm with diamond pave' halo, 6.5mm temporarily in 6 prongs in a YG mounting with rows of channel set diamonds, and two 8mm (2ct size) solitaires, one WG & all YG incl the head. There's also a thread where I asked about improvements to the round Moissanite cut and a dealer on this board posted a great reply about the current best cut vs. the older diamond cut for moiss.

Personally, I prefer Moissanite larger than 5mm (a .5ct diamond) in the antique settings rather than in contemporary. Off-white, yellow, gray, green, brown tints are ferquently features of antique diamonds, so tint is less of a negative there. So are odd light reflections and weird facetings. If there's a lot of bling and fire going on from the side stones or halo, it makes it harder to determine exactly what's from the center and that spreads out the moiss's disco ball effect. There's a certain way that I can tilt my 8mm under Office Max lights and it all but screams fake b/c no diamond casts fire exactly that way, So I always turn it around when I get to the register, hehe. I'm serious. Screams MOISSANITE!

The faceting looks kind of disjointed or jumbled the larger the moiss is, and the tint becomes increasingly visible. The two 8mm rounds that I posted are a buttery light yellow for sure, like a top L color diamond, I think. They can look as white as a K in some lights, but that yellow is definitely there. For those 2 big stones, I'd just go with the flow and I'd celebrate the tint and set them in yellow prongs for sure. Some people disapprove and say all-white or white head + yellow band is best, but I actually think yellow prongs look better w/ yellow tint. To each his /her own. The 7.5mm & smaller are freat in white, but those 2 8mm rounds I'd say are more attractive in yellow.

Be sure to read the post from the person who had the 3ct moiss e-ring but sold it. The tint bothered her after a while.
There are also a couple of moissanite ring picture threads at simstalk.com

7.5mm in WG

6.5mm in YG w/ white head

The center stones are from the same jewelry store chain. Both throw a lot of teal-color fire plus they kind of glow in sunlight. But they are not green or murky.

The same 6.5mm remounted in the blue sapph halo, next to a 6.5mm colorless Wink's CZ in WG illusion head. You can see how the moiss has tint, kind of looking I or J color in this shot.

Both 8mm (2ct) moisses. They are the same color. The WG 6-prong is an older cut. The YG 4-prong is the newest cut & a fantastic polish. I can't get a photo to show all of the tint that is sometimes there in real life. But these 2 are both like a light candlelight ivory color. They are yellow enough that I like the YG prongs better for the large moiss. In some lighting, they look J to K, but at other times & especially from the side, I think they look like lightest L color in diamond. Tint is readily seen from the side in both of these, but it's a buttery warm yellow, not green or gray, etc. Moissanite is not white. It can be made to look whiter in certain cuts and smaller sizes.

A 7mm (I think that's what it was) moissanite, recut to have faceting pattern like an Old European Cut. This was a custom recut by a gem cutter. It's owned by Irish at SimsTalk.com. It had some kind of tint, not sure what.

The two 8mm stones I have look about like this at their palest. Candlelight white.

Here are pics of my 7.5mm (2 carat) cushion moiss. In the loose stone pics, it's the one on the left and it's next to 2 faint yellow OEC cz's. Then there are pics of it set in my new wedding set - the first pic is of the current head, and the others are the old head with v-prongs that I had replaced (didn't like them).

As for color, the moiss is very white under artificial lighting. Outside under sunlight it looks light yellow. When it's really gray and overcast outside it tends to go a little neon yellow with a slight light green tint. I'd say it looks very diamond like (with regards to color) about 70% of the time. But I tell people that it's moiss and enjoy it for what it is!
