I have an annoyingly small size difference between my right and left 4th fingers, and it looks like I'll need to do some resizing! I got a gorgeous saphhire ring that almost fits on my left hand, but won't go over the right knuckle - and I don't wanna replace my ering. And speaking of which, at certain times of the day/year it's too loose, so I don't know the best solution for that. In the summer I'm sure it will fit snugly, so I don't know if I should resize it but it's really moving around a lot now.
I haven't had a ring resized for years - any pointers on things to watch for, ask for, how to find someone good, etc?

Loc: I'm FINALLY back in TEXAS!
I pay between $15 and $25, depending on the difficulty of the setting, etc I have just moved to OK from Texas and don't have a jeweler yet (sniff) so I'm not much help on how to find someone!
Where in TX did you move, Newbie? We just moved from Houston. If you live in the Houston area we can recommend a jeweler.
And merricks_girl, a retail jeweler will commonly charge anywhere from $15-$100, so be SURE to call an ask before you go in. The best thing to do is to look up "jewelry repair" in the phone book, they tend to charge less because the work is done on site. Retail jewelers will always charge more, because often times they send work out to jewelry repair shops themselves.

Also, check with the bench on what technique they use. If the change is small, say 1/4 to 1/2, some will try to "stretch" the gold. They do this rather than cut it and place a small piece of gold to enlarge it. It has the tendency to make the shank of the ring thinner and weaker. Good luck on your search.

I forget how much my jeweler charges. But if memory serves me correctly, it's more when they have to add gold. But in my case, that isn't necessary. My fingers are very small.

Oh that's an easy fix! If you wear let's say a size 4 (my size actually), make it size 4.25 to allow for swelling in warmer weather. DON'T however, make your rings too much larger. The reason being because in cold weather they are much looser.
My jeweler won't make my size 4 engagement ring 4.25. He won't because it's a wide and heavy ring so it fits larger anyhow. He does it with my bands though. Those range from 4.25 to 4.50 and no problems! Hope that helped somewhat!
