Love Ari's design, the second photo, and Leon's simple solitaire over that (very) awesome band! <3 I would want minimal distraction from that KILLER new stone of yours ~ congratulations on such a find!!!

That is one incredible looking stone.

I like this one because I think the contrast of the steps in the center stone, then some sparkly facets and then ending with more steps...that has my vote!

Yep, I like the Leon solitaire idea. Combine that with that band and wow, you will have a GORGEOUS ;9 wedding set. \:\)

I tend to like Asschers set as simply as possible, in a minimalist geometric setting, with the Asscher getting all the attention. I don't like claw prongs on them as well as I like thicker squared-off ones. I'm looking for pics but my dialup is running 36k.

Probably not your taste, but this is one I've always liked:

I don't like halos on Asschers. Also, with Asschers, a lot of the fire is in the side view, so I like something that's more open so I can see the pavillion.

I'm not picking a fight. I'm just tired out and not too conversational.

These are too massive, but this type of prong:

Heeee, heeee! I love them all. SIGH.

AdaBeta27, I agree that asschers look really cool from the side. This particular stone is nice and deep, with 4 pavillion steps (square EC's often have 3, and royal asschers have 5) with a small table - the way asschers are meant to be! Though means my 3 carat asscher faces up like a 2 carat RB, which is fine!

It's a GIA L, so I expect some body tint, which makes me wonder if a vintage repro will be more flattering to the stone than a sleeker open solitaire. But then I remember Snooper's antique cushion in LM classic solitaire and I get all smooshy inside...and it was a warm stone too. So maybe that setting paired with the vintage style band will work.

I am avoiding halos only because I don't actually want the stone to look bigger. I do love the look of step cuts in halos (something about the contrast of the steps against the pave) but don't want to go overboard with the bling - I think a halo on a 3 carat will be too much for me and will take away from a diamond that really should stand on its own.

Ada, good point about the prongs too. My asscher doesn't have really deep cut corners, so it's important to me that the setting emphasizes the shape of the stone. I think Leon's double claws work well to show off the clipped corners.
