Bad experience with Moissanite Co.- Is it just me?

This has been bothering me for quite some time now and I'm wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience. Please forgive the length of my entry here.Almost 2 years ago, I purchased a lovely moiss. eternity band set in paladium from Moissanite Co. I wore it proudly for approx. 6 months before the problems began. At first, it was just one stone going cloudy and I thought it was a fluke. Then, a few months later another did the same thing. I put the ring away for awhile and, since I was teaching school at the time, had no extra time to look into the problem. I took the ring out a few weeks later, since I missed wearing it, wore it for a few weeks more and a stone fell out. That makes 2 stones cloudy and 1 gone! I called Moiss. Co. and ,since it was over the year warranty (by about 2 months) they were going to charge me over $100 to fix the ring plus a pretty hefty return shipping cost. I declined, since I had already spent almost $500 just to buy it and didn't feel that I should have to pay so much for something that shouldn't have happened in the first place.I took the ring to my local jeweler (the same one who did the platinum setting for my EC diamond) and had him look at it. As he went around the ring with his loupe he kept saying "this one's cracked, this one's chipped..." almost all the way around the ring! He also asked me why it wasn't marked anywhere as to the metal content and said that didn't seem quite right to not put the metal content somewhere on the ring. Please understand that I am not trying to malign this company. However, this was my first experience with moissanite stones and I am hugely disappointed with the material and the customer service. The ring was subjected to normal wear.I always took it off for housework, yardwork, etc. and didn't even wear it to bed for fear of scratching it on the headboard or something. Can anyone tell me if I really got the one-in-a-million lemon from Moissanite Co? Has anyone had a similar experience?

Sorry to hear about this. I haven't bought any items from them but a few ladies here have so I am sure they will weigh in soon. Also I have been told that Palladium is not the most favorable of precious metals.

Unfortunately I don't remember the details of the price quote, but I do remember Jeanie because she posted the experience on Simstalk back in August 2007. simstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2138 Our response then: We are sorry to learn of your experience. Please contact us if you would like us to repair your ring at a discounted price. We would be happy to assist you. As far as the warranty is concerned, I would like to explain a little further. The lifetime warranty provided by the manufacturer of Moissanite, Charles & Colvard, does not cover broken, chipped and damaged Moissanite stones. The warranty details, terms and conditions are explained on our website at the following link: http://www.moissaniteco.com/warranty.html . Damage to jewelry or Moissanite gemstones would need to be covered by your jewelry insurance. We do stand behind our jewelry and we offer a warranty against manufacturing defect of our jewelry. But unfortunately we do not insure jewelry on behalf of our customers. As far as eternity rings being more susceptible to damage than others, this is not unique to Moissanite rings, but all eternity rings in general. The back of the band is the area that generally receives the most abuse. Since the stones on eternity rings go all the way around the band, when you hit the bottom of the ring, you are hitting the stones directly. This is why some of the stones in your ring have been broken. If you would like a quote on getting your eternity ring repaired, please send us an email and we will provide you with our very best price to get it repaired. We are also available in case you have any questions concerning your ring, warranties, etc. As far as the stamp is concerned, with some style eternity rings, there simply is no where to stamp on the inside of the band.

Jeanie, I'm so sorry to hear about this. I'm sure MoissCo'll fix it no problem! Mike, that's true regarding the stamp. My 18K white gold diamond eternity band had one. The 14K white gold diamond eternity band I have now, doesn't. Less room on this one. They better not chip, Godforbid! It's 3.25 carats of diamonds! I also have a 5 stone square brilliant curved band I bought from you some time ago. It's palladium. With a 30x loupe I can see the PD stamp. That's even with sizing it down to a 4.25.

Mike, I didn't buy the eternity band until end of April,2008 and I have the dated sales invoice. I did "vent" on Simstalk after contacting your company and being told that my ring wasn't covered and would cost me over $100 to repair. I just didn't, and still don't, feel that I should have to pay that much for damage that shouldn't have happened during normal wear.I also contacted Charles & Covard and was told that the damage wasn't covered by them and I would have to contact Moissanite Co. ,which I had already done to no avail. I have a couple of inexpensive cz eternity bands that I have worn and worn without any problems, as well as my diamond eternity bands! I still feel that I received a defective ring, especially after my jeweler louped it and found even more damage. I never wore this band while doing any heavy work ,gardening, housecleaning, using bleach or other cleaning products, etc. It was a beautiful ring but, in hindsight, I wish that I had bought something other than moissanite.

I'm just as puzzled as anyone as to how this happened. As I said in my previous post, I really loved this band and I took very good care of it. I have 2 diam./plat eternity bands,2 inexpensive cz bands, a diam/yg band and a diam/sapphire band in white gold. None of my other bands have given be any problems.I'm not "blaming" Moissanite Co. and I'm not trying to stir up a hornets nest here.I guess I'm just unlucky when it comes to moissanite. I honestly thought that ,because there was so much damage, someone at the company would realize that the ring had to have been defective and offer to replace/repair for shipping costs only. That didn't happen. I only posted here to find out if anyone else had problems with this product.I appreciate all of your comments and I just might look into buying a bag of little moissanites. From what my jeweler said, almost all will need to be replaced! J.
