Wondering what your opinion of diamonds made from hair, ashes, umbilical cord etc..?

Also they say that these are REAL diamonds being made by HPHT. Are they really "real" diamonds?

I think maybe a diamond from my daughters first curl or something might be neat...I don't think the ashes or umbilical cord is something id go for tho

there are a few companies that offer this service. if i recall correctly, the "carbon" you contribute only counts for a small amount of the carbon used to make the diamond. at least that's what i think i read. it may be a bit gimmicky.

Yes, the Carbon is extracted from hair and used as a base for growing diamond. I talked to DNA2Diamonds and they explain it pretty well.

edit: Actually not necessarily creepy but I just wouldn't spend my money on it.

Oh I'd do it if it wasn't too expensive. If the carbon has to come from somewhere to grow a diamond and I want a piece of diamond jewelry to remember or in honor of a loved one, why not use their hair or ashes as the "starter" so to speak?

It just depends on the hassle and cost regarding whether I'd actually do it but I'm not totally against the idea.

My aunt actually wrote a song about this, specifically the idea of taking someone's ashes and turning them to diamonds. In the song the singer ends up collecting quite a few diamonds this way including from her deceased dog and parrot, but in the end is forced to pawn them due to hard times :P. It was such a creepy yet hilarious song, it was a big hit locally! Wish I had a youtube link or something haha.

This has been discussed on here before and if I remember correctly, its a total scam! I think it was either MikeC (our investagator extriodnare) or Less (our fraud guru) who had the facts to debunk the whole thing.
