I am beyond ecstatic!! He is so precious...

He was born Dec.1st 2010, he is a chihuahua/maltese mix. He looks just like a cow. Our neighbor Tom has his mama. She is a 3 lb. short hair red chihuahua. The dad is maltese. Lil man looks like a mix of the two. He is already as big as his mama, and so happy.

We can have him in about 2-3 weeks. THey just started eating solid food a lil at a time.

My girls will be surprised, we dont want to tell them until we have him home. I will try to get a good picture of him. Took one last night, but you cant see his face.

We found out on Friday from our neighbor that his daughter freaked out about him selling the puppy. SHe really wants to keep him. Both of her parents say No! But she has 2 wks to convince her Mom & Stepdad to let her have him.

I am so bummed! Hoping for the best, but

have you ever thought about a rescue puppy? we just got our 5 month old from a shelter, it was reliquished the day before because the people were being evicted, it was a 2k dog! a mini beagle and he is house broken, he's the best dog we've ever had and we've had a few. He was found on petfinder.com there is some puppies in my local area that were dumped so you never know if you'll find one...and they're usually super cheap too.

I found my dog on petfinder too, she is a white Pomeranian and is the sweetest thing in the world. They found her as a stray but she was already trained... and no one came looking for her when she was missing... I guess someone just abandoned her. It makes me sick because they abandoned her in WINTER, in Canada. Ugh.

She was 3 when we got her and had a few behavior issues that we had to work through. She warmed to me instantly but was terrified of my husband for months, but now she walks all over him and is happy as can be. We got so lucky with her, she doesn't chew on anything and is extremely quiet, especially for a Pom (yappy breed lol). Super smart too, we've taught her a bunch of tricks, she is definitely the best (well-mannered) dog I have ever owned.

We have been looking online at the shelter websites in our area, as well as Petsmart Adoption events. I would prefer to adopt/rescue if the lil guy falls through.

We went to Petsmart this past Sunday, so many amazing lil animals I wish I could adopt them all.

I so hope you can get your furbaby mom2dolls.... I don't know what I would do without my Shokie .... I have no kids yet... well other then him.... I wish more people would realize that animals need love and care too..... I hope you get a furbaby to help take care of if not the one from your neighbor then another that needs all kinds of love....

Petfinder is a great resource. You might also want to check your local Craigslist for dogs that need to be rehomed. They are often from people who can no longer keep their dogs for various reasons, but who don't want to turn them over to the shelters either.

If you are looking for a younger dog, remember that some people make the mistake of buying a "Christmas" puppy, only to find out that they can't or don't want to take on that responsibility, so puppies occasionally start showing up on Craigslist shortly after Christmas.

Our female was 4 months old when we rescued her from a pound in Feb 11 yrs ago, so we figured she was probably gotten as a "Christmas" puppy because she was such a cutie, but her breed requires lots of early training and can't be ignored or left alone when they are young or they can become destructive.

We just got a 2yr. old male Australian shepherd that needed rehoming off of Craigslist. He is a wonderful dog and doesn't have any behavior problems (except that he needs serious leash traing, but we are working on that). He was living in a home with 3 college/working girls and I think they decided that he would be better off in a home that could give him the attention and exercise that he requires.

Your local shelter! There are LOTS of animals that need a loving home.......

I completely agree if they have a dog that fits your needs. In my case, they didn't have any young (but not puppy) male herding dogs which was what we were looking for. For some reason when I was looking, all of the ones they had were female.

They did have one Aussie/Great Pyrenees male, but my DH reminded me that we needed to get a dog that would fit through our existing doggy door - LOL!

I looked through petfinder.com this morning. Of course they have adorable puppies. I submitted an application to a local gal that has rescued puppies.

John & I decided we are going to go Friday afternoon to the shelter down the street to see the doggies there.

One of the key factors for us if we adopt a shelter pup is he/she has to be comfortable with young children. My youngest daughter is that child that wants to love them to death. She is learning with our babysitter's chihuahua to be gentle not overbearing.

It is very sad how many pregnant dogs are abandoned. The petfinder site I was looking at was full of moms with their puppies. So sad!!!

I know! hopefully you won't have to look at them all when you go and they'll just bring the dog out to you in a private area. I brought my littlest kids first when we got our dog recently and spent about 20 minutes with him and my other dog.

I hope that you found a pup. If you did not get one yet, I was wondering how young your children are? Please, for the welfare of everyone, do a little research, if your children are under 12yrs old. If you really do want a toy or toy/mix pup, please check the internet for info on pups safe with young children.

I have a friend whose pups are just about ready to be placed. They are chi and pomeranian pups. The mother was a good sized or large pom. She is only selling her pups under a contract that advises any potential buyers that these pups should not go to a home with children under age 12 (the advice of her veterinarian).

If your kids are older, no problems. If they are still young, best to wait, if you really want a small dog. Or, there are small breeds who are sturdier (pugs, etc.) Of course, depending on age of your children and the pup/dog, it still requires a lot of work to avoid heartbreak, or you can consider a medium sized mix/rescue.

We did get a furbaby.

His name is Max. He is a chihuahua mix. We adopted him from a shelter. He was 2 months old & 2 lbs when we got him. He is now 11 months old and 15 lbs.
