Thank you everybody!

He is such a sweet baby. He does look alot like a Lab. We are very curious what the mix in him is.

He has to have contact, he was waking up every hour or so at night. We went through this routine for the first few nights. I put him in bed with us on Wednesday night, and he slept the rest of the night through. So, he has been with us the last two nights. Last night he was only up once.

I know it is probably not the best habit to get into, but he cries terribly at night when he is by himself.

What do you all think?

I did the same thing! As long as they didn't mess the bed, I didn't care.

Could you crate him? When my dogs were pups they stayed in their crate from 11pm-6am.
Romeo cried at first but he got used to it after a 2 nights. He's rotten and sleeps with us now; he waits until we're asleep and sneaks in our bed. I don't usually care unless he a bad dream or he's restless.

We do have a crate for him. We usually put him in there, as soon as we close it up he cries terribly.

I am thinking we need to put his crate downstairs, and practice a little tough love frown His crying is really hard on my boyfriend. He cant stand to hear him sad.

Such a sweet little guy.... soooooo cute!!!! My Yorkie mix has always been the same way.... for him to sleep he has to be touching me or my Hubby.... as soon as you move from him he will wiggle around til he is touching you again.... smile

we tried the crate thing when we first got him.... but he would set at the door and cry and whimper and I just couldn't stand my little baby to do that so he has been in the bed with us at night ever since... we don't mind... he has always been a good puppy and has never wet or went potty in the bed.... I can't believe hes 5 now....

My understanding with chihuahuas is that that is normal... partly due to their need for more warmth due to small size & whatnot. My boyfriend's chihuahua slept in somebody's bed her whole life.

Oh my little man....

We have been putting him in a octagon wire pen during the day. He always has his puppy bed, toys, water & pee pee pads. Ample room to play and relax.

Well, lil Houdini has learned how to climb up & over the side of the pen. I have come home several times to him upstairs, which means he also moved the baby gate in front of the stairs.

He did this this morning. My girlfriend is our puppy checker during the day. SHe found him inside of a box, on the side of the couch.

I went home at lunch and had to put him in his crate. It was the most horrible thing ever! He instantly started trying to chew the bars of his crate.

We are just at a loss as where to put him safely while we are at work. He is very drawn to the wires under the desk, this is my biggest worry with allowing him to roam free downstairs. Plus he poops everywhere when alone!

Furbaby advice please.....

Crate training is the most safe and effective way of keeping your puppy secure during the day. Dogs are naturally inclined to want to "den" and they will feel much safer if they are crated when you are away. They will also learn better toilet manners. If your girlfriend comes in two or three times a day to let him out for toilet, there will be no reason to worry that you are being mean to the dog, just make sure it has a safe toy or chew bone, and that someone will see to his toilet needs.
