style that I want. (thanks to Joyce's yummy ebay post). I want an art deco style with a french cut sapphire or ruby halo and an outer diamond halo. Dh told me at dinner tonight that he is oing to put a deposit in my jewelry fund that should almost cover getting the ring made. (yeah) Here are a couple that I have found. To give people an idea of what I am talking about. http://www.faycullen.com/Engagement-Rings/8968/ http://www.faycullen.com/Engagement-Rings/8142/http://www.langantiques.com/products/item/10-1-2127I will likely be using my 8mm round moissy as the center to keep cost down. Anyone want to chime in with opinions? I've never owned either a sapphire or a ruby, so is there a reason to love one over the other? If I go with the ruby halo I have stated that I wanted the lighter pinker more raspberry tone versus the very deep reds. I also like the combo of the medium to lighter blue sapphires halos with diamonds and think that is a classic look. Decisions, decisions. I would want to add matching/coordinating pieces to this over time to end up with a whole "suite" of jewelry eventually and am willing to take this consideration factor when making my decision. I have no clue if one stone is easier to find in jewelry or much more expensive. Any experts want to chime in!!

Is that what the ruby or sapphire halo is called? French cuts? LOL, I've been looking for the same kind of halo for months now, and my internet searches keep bringing up the wrong type, because I couldn't figure out what the fitted stones were called... Good eye MrsFish - I love this Art Deco look!

Well, rubies are simply red sapphires, so as far as gemstone qualities I think in all important aspects they are nearly identical. Blue is more popular and a bit cheaper, and will likely be easier to add to in the future as far as matching pieces goes. I'm not an expert though! Oh, how I do love Fay Cullen's settings! Anyone know if they will work with moissanite?

I am no expert, but I find if you think of what colour suits your skin tone better (ex. blue shirt or red shirt?) that helps, also what colours do you wear often? Will it suit the stone well? I find there is more variation in blue stones available though, whereas the may be a bit less in red. But there's always orange and yellow. They are all lovely, although I have to add my two cents, I loove the shape of the third oval/rectangle halo. Good luck with choosing!

oh good luck and congrats on getting a gorgeous halo made! EEEP!
I had the same dilemma - blue or red. I certainly want both, but I decided I would wear blue more often.
The Fay Cullen with the sapphires is stunning. wow.

Oh, how I do love Fay Cullen's settings! Anyone know if they will work with moissanite? Ack! Do NOT purchase from Fay Cullen! I was *thiiiisclose* to purchasing a setting from them last year but then I did some research and I found a bazillion and one HORRIBLE reviews. I was heart broken. Just check Pricescope. I might have found 5 of less good reviews. Horrible return policy, very iffy quality, people losing money, etc. Their custom settings are especially iffy. If you purchase from them then keep in mind you are at risk. Their rings are definitely pretty, but I would use pictures of their settings as inspiration only. Moving on... I think blue vs. red depends on how much you want your ring to stand out. Sapphires have become very popular in settings lately and I'm sure that will increase thanks to the revival of the Princess Di ring. I don't mean that in a bad way - I have accent sapphires in my current setting! I think red stands out more and calls for more attention while the blue still catches the eye but is more subdued.

MrsF, love the FayCullen ring, although i see that they've had some pretty bad reviews (Milady's posting). It reminds me of this ring from PS http://www.pricescope.com/forum/show-me-...ng-t155920.html Blues (sapphire) are definitely more common in terms or colored precious stones; I think blue colors are generally a safe choice. I agree with Milady, especially popular and will stay that way for a bit due to the upcoming royalty wedding. I really also like Rubies, I see red as a power color so if that's not what you're looking for, you may not want a Ruby. I personally love it. I'm not much of a pink colored anything but red, I love Good luck on your decision making, I know it's always hard.
