So here's the deal. I'm trying to lose my pregnancy weight and I'm having a really tough time. I have two girls who are four years, and 18 months. After I had my first, the weight (plus some) melted off after I stopped BF. I also didn't gain very much. Only 12 pounds. Well, I gained A LOT more with my second pregnancy and I'm still trying to lose the last of it.
So far I've lost 19 pounds. Still have 11 to go. I started losing the weight when I stopped BF in October. You see, I'm one of the lucky 5% of moms who either can't lose or actually gain while BF.
Anyway, last week I gained four pounds in a matter of three days!! How is this possible? If one pound equals 3500 calories, that means I would have had to consume 14,000 calories to gain that much weight, and I know for sure that I didn't! Could it be water? I stopped taking the pill a month ago so I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it. I'm not pregnant either....almost positive I'm not. Dear Lord, please don't let me be pregnant!! lol
I'm really not expecting to get advice or anything. I'm just really frustrated that its taking so long to lose the weight. I have a closet full of clothes that I can't wear, and I'm just kind of down about it. My husband tells me I'm perfect the way I am, but I remember how it was when I was thin. I'm almost embarrassed when he walks in on me when I'm changing my clothes or just getting out of the shower. I was never like that before. I just want to be back to my normal self, ya know?
Ok, my vent is over. Just needed to get it out I guess.

could mean many things. If you are having "movement" problems its easy to gain 4+lbs, even if you go once a day you could still be "packing" that much extra weight. Also I know certain times of the month (one to even two weeks before my TOM) I can even gain up to 10lbs in water weight. I guess what I'm trying to say is I know how you feel and am feeling it right now. In the past two days I've gained 3 lbs... urg...

I read an intersting thing about weight loss. Basically what I read said that your fat cells do not want to shrink down; they like to be fast, lol. SO when you are losing weight, it will be going along just fine, and then your fat cells get a bit nervous about shrinking, and they start filling up with water; to hold the same size. So you don't really look any different and youare now gaining when you used to be losing. And now most people get discouraged, and go off the diet...or you just stick it out, and wait for your body to accept the process. It could take a while, but you just have to stick it out!!
I am also still trying to lose some baby weight, and I also abhor my body right now...but it will come! We just have to keep eating properly and it will slowly come off.

Four pounds in three days - that means you weighed yourself, then weighed yourself 3 days later, right? That's why experts say to weigh yourself once a week. You're going to fluctuate throughout the week with water weight. In fact, my trainer tells me not to weigh in the week of my period, because the entire week BEFORE my period, I could just retain enough water to scare me. It's NOT really possible to gain that much fat in 3 days. The pounds are there, you see them on the scale, but they are either water weight, a build up in your uterus before your 'time of the month' can actually weigh a lot, if you have heavier than normal periods, or like Miss KK said - a small build up in your intestines. Give it a week, drink water and lay off sodium -it's in the weirdest non-salty food, so check your labels! You'll see you DIDN'T gain weight. The scale will go back down. BTW - I'm going through the same thing, trying to lose baby weight that I put on while pregnant with my daughter. I gained a LOT with my pregnancy though, due to an uncontrolled diabetic pregnancy, and a high risk one where I was ordered not to exercise by the dr. So far, I've lost 24 pounds - and I still have a long way to go. So, good luck to you!!!! I know how hard it is to lose those pounds after having children! It's like they want to stick to us magnetically or something. lol.

i really have no advice. it could be movement issues, could be water weight, could be your time of the month, could be that you went off the pill. you gained only 12 lbs during your first pregnancy?! wow! this is my first and i've gained a total of 31 lbs as of my last appt. Bling, darling - you're still pregnant! That doesn't count, not until after you've had the baby. My DD was 10 lbs, 7 oz. The placenta was 13 lbs 4 oz. (yes they weighed it, they were curious because it was large) the blood loss was like in a horror movie (sorry, there's no other way to describe it) - felt like gallons. Not to mention the extremely swollen fingers/feet/ankles - the water weight went away after the pregnancy too. .... total weight lost the day of Abbie's birth: about 30 pounds. So, don't worry! You need a week or two after your baby's birth to figure out what weight is yours vs what is the baby or extra stuff for the baby.

me too!! I have a good month and then a stall...and then the cycle continues! I am gonna win it though! Fat is stupid! Interesting jcent! That would make sense - it seems like every 5 or 6 weeks, my body goes crazy and retains water for a week or two - even though I haven't added sodium into my diet. It's exactly like you described - I feel like it's panicking and scrambling to keep it's mass. lol.
Too bad. I'm gonna win. Take THAT, stupid fat. :P lol

I think all the ladies are right there is no way you gain 4 lbs of fat...it must be one of the mentioned things. BTW - I'm going through the same thing, trying to lose baby weight that I put on while pregnant with my daughter. I gained a LOT with my pregnancy though, due to an uncontrolled diabetic pregnancy, and a high risk one where I was ordered not to exercise by the dr.. That's weird I thought having gestational diabetes was the best thing ever lol (just kidding) but seriously from the moment I found out I had it and they put me on the diet I didn't gain a single pound...so I guess that means I was losing weight because the baby was getting bigger and I didn't gain any weight! I didn't have any issues losing the baby weight I was back to my pre-baby weight by 6 weeks and was even skinner in certain areas. HOWEVER, the minute I stopped BF'ing I gain 10 pounds and have been trying to lose it since (the last 1.5 years) I just started getting really serious about it and want to lose the weight by the middle of the summer.
