Hi all, We've posted the listing of countries that Charles and Colvard has patent protection in currently for cutting 'Silicon Carbide Gemstones' (moissanite). There are 27 and the US expiry is 2015. Until these expire or are invalidated, we are not able to offer any of the upcoming/future Mira cuts to customers in these countries (Asscher, emerald, H&A, etc). Customer's in countries not shown below will be able to purchase Mira's in the new cuts as soon as we have them available.
Silicon Carbide Gemstones – Patent protection is in effect until 2015:
Europe: EP0853690 (Designated countries) AUSTRIA Belgium SWITZERLAND GERMANY DENMARK SPAIN FINLAND FRANCE UNITED KINGDOM Greece Ireland Italy Liechtenstein Luxembourg Monaco Netherlands Portugal Sweden Canada CA 2230262 Hong Kong HK 1015423 Austria AT 253132 Australia AU 710841 United States US 5723391 Brazil BR 9610393 Japan JP 11507906 Russia RU 2156330 China CN 96196588.6 Note that the patent in Korea was thrown out due to "lack of innovation" and thus customer in Korea may purchase future Mira's at any time.
Korea KR 1019980701486 (invalidated)
Until the patents in the above countries expire or are invalidated, we cannot sell any Mira's that we have cut to customers in those countries.
We can and will continue to offer the standard round brilliant cut (cut by Charles and Colvard) and cushion cut to the above countries.
Link to site page (slightly better formatting there as well): Mira Banned Countries until 2015 Best regards Less
Edited by lessw (07/18/11 09:27 PM) Edit Reason: France was listed 2x - 2nd 'France' is Greece - fixed

Thanks, Less. One question, though. Why is France listed twice? It's 'doubly banned' in France. No, actually I don't know and will have to point this out to our lawyers who compiled this list. I suspect there is a different Euro country that was intended for the second France mention. Thanks for spotting this! Less

Wow! When will the H&A stones be ready for shipping to non-patented countries?! I have a friend in a non-patented country who is interested in Mira. 2012 is a safe bet. End of 2011 is possible, but I'd hate to promise and then not be able to deliver...we're still setting up a lot of the infrastructure for it and some of it has to be done overseas in a foreign 'clean' country so can't be as precise as if it was all here. Best regards Less

*gasp* New Zealand isn't on there! Uh-oh, wheels are turning, wheels are turning... and I actually really have wanted to go there for a long time.
Mwhahahaha, now my FH is going to wonder why I'm suddenly adamant that we go to New Zealand for our honeymoon, lol!
