My MIL is GIA certified in pearls and she works with Coin pearls alllllll the time. As for cost - If the amount they were originally valued at is higher than the 100 dollars it would cost to have them appraised again, I say go for it. However, I don't honestly think they are as valuable as some other pearls, so, you know... caveat emptor or whatever.

While beautiful, the ones you have are not exactly uncommon (in my searches anyway), unless they are saltwater or you know of some other unique characteristic they possess. Just my opinion though, and certainly not a professional one, but I do love me some pearls! Freshwater coin pearls are very pretty, but don't hold the same value as saltwater pearls. Coin pearls can be bought from $100 up to around $500 depending on their size, and whether or not they're blemished. Do you remember who did the appraisal that you had originally? Was it from the company that sold the pearls? _________________________ I'm still hot!! Only now, it comes in flashes.
