Even on cloudy days I don't see yellow or green in my Mira. No, it's not always bright and sparkly but neither is my diamond. I wonder if you got a 'dud' Mira somehow? I'm sure Less would be interested to see if it looked like mountain dew or pee in ANY lighting. That just shouldn't be.

Quote:
My diamond snob mom (said with love - and frustration) came over to see my new ring and referred to it as my "pee-pee, mountain dew diamond" frown. And she laughed at my ring.
....
I would like to avoid the future possibility of my mom referring to my ring as a "pee-pee diamond"

I can't imagine why any mother would do that to their daughter. If she's a diamond snob she probably won't like an asha either. What's important is what YOU like. If she is that way in general I doubt there is anything you could do to avoid her being rude and critical of your choice. frown

I would be interested to know what you thought of your ring too. Did you like it and was it just your Mum that put you off with her comments? Did you tell her it wasn't a diamond?

I haven't seen an Amora/Mira but have never read that they show yellow in some lights.

Hi everyone – thank you for responding and being so supportive. My mom is Critical with a capital c underline!! She is very color sensitive, and I realized after making my post that I better clear that up so it doesn’t seem like I am slamming Mira. Mira is a very scrumptious stone and the brilliance is ah-mazing.

I intially LOVED my Mira ring – the sparkle was so crazy and brilliant. We have mostly LED lights in our house so I stood under the lights and admired the Mira for hours (much to my husband’s amusement). I did notice some warmth to the stone, but not the “pee-pee” my mom kept commenting about until she made me look at the ring in 5 bajillion angles and different lighting. I didn’t see any of the "mountain dew" she kept claiming she saw at all.

I did explain to my mom that I ordered a Moissanite and not a diamond – that was another long conversation as she is just as ‘traditional’ as she is critical. My mom wears a 3ct round H VS2 with 1ctw side baguettes – and she paid a pretty penny for it!! When I compared my ring to hers there was a definite color difference, but it was hard to capture on camera.

I texted my sister with one of the photos and she couldn’t see the color difference or warmth that I was worried about.
None the less, I didn’t want to have to hear my mom for the rest of my life making comments about my ring, so back the little beauty went. I guess what I have realized is that I do not want any warmth to my stone and for it to be as near colorless as possible.

@Dana – your photo made me smile
@kanagroocrazy – I should have been more specific, I am in Woodinville and would love to meet up with you!! I have a feeling you would help me find the perfect ring smile!!
@germanhatianese I would love to see your Asha that you will be selling!

I just realized something, I did tell my mom that Moissanite was “better than diamond” (LOL, as I used Less's tagline)in terms of investment, brilliance.... blah blah…. I more than likely rubbed her the wrong way unintentionally, and she probably had an axe to grind….oopsie. Oh well, can't make everyone happy!!

Here are some photos so people can see the ring in question. She was a beauty.

She was so sparkley that capturing her was almost impossible. She looks like a little star here:

Sorry the image insert is working for me so here is a link:

Sky Drive

1st pic she looks like a little star and sparkles like mad - hard to capture her

2nd pic she is on my hand - not the best lighting

3rd she is next to mom's diamond - picture taken outside

I think when you can get an Amora gem, you will be much happier with that smile

I can`t see any of your pics though frown

I think you are spot on @jcent about my liking the Amora gem. I have in-laws in India so I am praying that I can snag an Amora right at consumer launch. I am contemplating getting the setting I want now with an asha, and then swapping for the Amora.

That`s a good idea smile And then you can reset your Asha in a pendant.

Sorry you had to send her back! I can't get the photos to work, but I would really like to see them. I was planning to order a Mira/Amora ring in January, but now I am a bit worried about the color!

Hi @wishfully - sorry about my photos....does this link work?

Link to photos...

I wouldn't worry about color - unless you are very color sensitive. The ring had a tremendous sparkle to it and looked better than my mom's diamond when compared for sparkle factor!!

I can't see photos either...but I was just coming back to ask if you had told your mother it was moissy. sometimes people, when they have preconceived notions, allow it to really affect their perception. Sometimes they've made up their minds before they ever saw the item in question. I suspect had you not told her it would have been a totally different reception. Not at all your fault, just something to consider for the future.
