You could say you have a connection in the business who helped you out just this once (that way no one will ask you to help them too). If they ask how much it costs, use the line I read on another board, "the deal we made requires me to keep the price confidential because my connection can't disclose the profit margin"
The estate sale/grandma's stone thing sounds good but I can forsee a lot of questions you'll have to find answers for immediately. That will put you on the spot and I don't know how fast you can think on your feet! I saw the estate sale thing on another post so that is where I got the idea.

Okay, ignore my avatar because it doesn't match my response. LOL
My first question is, are you trying to pass it off as a mined diamond? My second would be, if you are can you afford a 3 ct diamond and is it what those in your social circle consider the norm and wear as well?
Personally I would never wear anything over 1 ct because people in my social circles and work place just don't wear stones bigger than that, no matter their income. It's not the norm here.
Big is pretty - if you like it, you feel comfortable wearing it and you can pull it off (for what ever reason "pull it off" means to you) then got for big. I had shrinkage with my 1.25 carat round. I ended up not being too happy with it. I like attention like most woman and the big one fits my personality more. I would like to pull it off as real. Honestly I had my 1.25 carat asha round since last Feb and I never got compliments on it. I used to be married long ago and had a .92 carat. It was so beautiful and I got lots of compliments on it all the time so maybe I am expecting the same because it is bigger and prettier idk. But this one is gorgeous and I could care a less if I got complements. I can't stop staring at it. I have a close family friend who is a multimillionaire. He paid half for my house and furnished the whole thing. He is very close now to my husband. Anytime I fall into a rut and need help financially he is there. I am not a fan of real diamonds for many reasons, but if I were he would have no problem getting it for me or even giving the money to my husband to get me a real 3 carat diamond. So in my situation it really could happen. Excluding my friend Jack then no way. But in reality it's no one's effin business how I got it. I'll have to see how it goes. I could even say it's moissie. Some people have a warped view of CZ because they went to clairs boutique one too many times but I can say it is moissie or something. No one can deny how beautiful it is either way. Could you give Jack my phone number? Do you think he likes grumpy, dumpy old women?

shrinkage already set in on my 3 ct and I thought it was going to be too big. The halo makes it look bigger than it is though. I keep reading this phrase "shrinkage" .... What does it mean ? Surely the Asha Isn"t literally shrinking in the setting?!?!?!!!

It does. You can only wear an asha in weather under 85F. Nah! j/k Shrinkage, or DSS (Diamond Shrinkage System), is a phenomena where you think the stone size you purchased is perfect, but then very shortly after, it starts to look small, and you start craving a larger stone.

Hah! Not gonna lie when I read your weather comment I stopped reading and my poor ticker went nuts. Thank goodness I decided to keep on reading . Hmmm I hope I don't suffer from this shrinkage phenomenon with my impending purchase. Thanks for the reply!

I'm a size 8 finger and can afford a real 3ct princess diamond. I actually just bought the timeless three row micropave rin from BTD with a 3ct princess asha. I should get it this week! I'll post pictures.
