I have a couple of rings that I would like to remove stones from for future use. I don't care about damaging the setting but don't want to mess up the stones even though they are small. Can I use simple needle nose pliers? What suggestions do you ladies have? ~Red

I used this to take apart a four stone ring and it worked great!

You can google and see some info on how to use it, but basically you find the notch that works best for your stone/prong and pry it open backwards (the lifter rests on the ring). I did scuff the ring a bit, so I would suggest slipping some foam or plastic wrap in between the ring and where the prong lifter will rest.

I went to a jewelers once and he took my diamond out using needle nose pliers. He just bent two adjacent prongs back slightly and out it came!

My jeweler is a ninja! I swear the other day he took my stone out of the setting so fast that I didn't even know he had began the process. Lol I looked down for literally a second or two and looked up to see him holding my stone in a little baggy. Lol see....ninja! wink

Well I have had no luck removing the stones even with the handy dandy tool. My right hand doesn't always want to do exactly what I want so that may be the issue. Mr will try for me and if he can't I will try a jeweler in the area. Thanks for the info ladies.-Red9
