Seems like every time we travel we get stuck in a natural disaster. We were stuck in London when the volcano erupted in Iceland. I'm so sorry you're unlucky in your travels... but do you want to know where we were when he volcano erupted? We were in Skaftafel NP, the closest point a person could be to Grimsvotn volcano. We stayed there at night, and when we woke up in the morning we couldn't believe our eyes 'cause you couldn't see anything. It was like a very dense black fog, and the visibility was close to zero. We had to clean the volcano ash off our car and since the road in the direction we were going was closed, we had to go back all the way around the island since they have 1 circle road and glaciers in the middle, so there was no other way except for drive back all the way around. We had a lot of adventurous trips all around the world, and we still enjoy travelling. We will sure go back to Iceland and visit whatever we missed last time. WOW!! Sure makes my experience small in comparison. I heard it's beautiful there. I spent a semester in Sweden but never made it to Iceland. I did visit the rest of Scandinavia though and it's lovely.

Dayna, that story was HILARIOUS!! We go to Canmore quite a but actually, for weekends etc. It is much cheaper that Banff, and almost as pretty. The people tend to be nicer though We do definitely take advantage of it! When we lived in BC we spent a lot of time in Whistler and in wine country. I know what you mean about traveling in Canada though! Crazy expensive airfare!! We have an RV, so we drive to a lot of places. I went to Western, so I still have many friends in ON and I like to visit as much as I can. I totally don't trust any one with our DD either, and since now we will have another, I can only imagine it will be that much longer. I was hoping by the time the youngest was 5 I would feel okay about it, but we will have to see. My DD is 2, and we have still never left her...

Woman: "This guide book says at deer live at such and such an elevation, and that higher up, we'll see ELK. So, we thought if we go hiking, we can sit in a clearing at that elevation so we can watch the deer BECOME elk."
Me: stunned silence.
OMG! That is literally laugh out loud funny and yet sad at the same time! UtahRocks, thanks for the tips - I'm getting pretty excited!

Boston24, congrats on your upcoming wedding!!!!!!!!!! So exciting! Enjoy your honeymoon, you'll love it. MrsElleMonk, wanted to add that when we were in Iceland we found this site very useful: http://www.vegagerdin.is/english/road-conditions-and-weather/ Since you'll be there in wintertime I suggest that you check it daily. Nearly every hotel/motel/guesthouse/farm will have a free wireless Internet access, so please check the road conditions before you head anywhere. The highway 1 (the Circle Road) is often narrow with one-way bridges with unpaved portions in the Eastern Fjords area, so you really need to be careful and stay safe. Just seeing this now... How KIND of you to post!! We didn't drive anywhere as we stayed in Temple Bar in Dublin and walked or used public transit everywhere we went... but Thank you Thank you for thinking of this.... we have friends that are moving there, so I will send the link along
