Thank you Ladywolfe. That was a wonderful message. I so appreciate you taking the time to write it.
I have some news. Darby has gotten a second chance. We're very cautiously optimistic. Long story short after talking to the trainers at the track, the wonderful woman at the rescue and I kinda cooked up a plan.
I went down today to see Darbs and to chat about another hound who needed a home that the trainer (who worked with Paladin and Darby both) said would be a perfect match to Paladin. Her personality and temperment are suprisingly compatible. So the plan was to bring her home so that Paladin would have a friend. (Greys are generally not solitary creatures, they're used to having other greys around.)
Well, the trainer spoke to both the rescue and to me and said that she truly believed, and had seen time and again, that dynamics changed with three. WE deliberated and decided to trial it. I'll be in constant contact with the rescue and if there's any issue she will not be able to stay. We're going to be dealing with a behaviorist and working through this. Right now we're functioning as a foster family with her, with the hopes that she can stay.
Other things influenced the decision, but we are working towards what we hope is the best for everyone. Kids are on board and dogs are muzzled (which they're super used to and is not at all an issue. Everyone is safe, but I'm not sure it will be sustainable. But we have a plan and we'll see how it plays out. I'll keep you posted if you are interested! Here's the new peanut.
