Mine were the older ones, so I don't know how the newer versions look. I did see your photos and saw the glassy hollow look and it is too bad... I also have some ECs from Wink and they are gorgeous! I have one in Canary yelllow and the facets are sharper as well. I also have two square ECs that I'm looking to have set one of these days.

Nothing will come close to the depth a diamond has... Maybe except the Amora Gem. I am dying to see that one cut in an EC! And maybe it will make me save to get one...

As for windmills, I still don't like them. But stone cuts are a very personal preference, still some defend those windmills like they were gospel!

They look very hollow to me. I don't want to offend anyone but I knew it was only a matter of time before somebody posted their pictures in defense of their stones. While those are gorgeous they do have that hollow look to me.

I just went back to the other threads and looked at the comparison photos again, and I'm baffled... I'm not here to *defend* my stones per se... I did see all those photos and I can see those Ashas are glassy and lack depth and facet sharpness. Again, mine were older ones... Maybe the older ones are better... While they will never be like a diamond (nothing will, except another diamond), they were certainly better than the ones photographed, so if anyone wants an Asha, maybe looking for an older one might be it...

I have been on this board for years and years, and all the Asha ECs posted way back then didn't have the glassy shallow look. If they did, people would have posted about that back then too. I would love to know what version Asha are the ones posted in those photos where they look glassy... Maybe it was a bad batch.

And I'm not posting here to staunchly defend the stones... Only to add one more side and opinion so people looking at these threads and thinking about buying a stone can make a more informed desition.

@borismom-I think your photos are glorious and wouldn't hesitate to purchase one of those rings!

I am still an Asha fan and will buy one every day of the week over a diamond any day. If they were able to create batches with more warmth like in the I/J/K range, it would make it easier to pass as a diamond. For me, the lack of color and depth on the Asscher makes it unrealistic in the 4ct size. But, I would not hesitate to buy a 2ct.

I have never seen a diamond EC without windmills? Do they in fact exist?

Borismom, your pictures do look better than my pictures of my Asha.

I still like windmills though! but as you said you do not so its just a personal preference.

I always say, who cares what anyone else says or thinks because when it comes down it to the only opinion matters is yours. \

My tastes are sometimes very unpopular and I am ok with that smile

I know... I hated my asscher from the moment I opened the box and people love asschers here. I also hated a Sunset Jubilee Wink ring I got on the bistro and the Sunset color has huge fans here as well.

I agree that the person wearing it is the one that has to love it, no matter what the others say.

When this whole windmill/no windmill discussion started I went to some jewelry stores around town and asked to look at their EC's - all had windmills. I also went to a diamond dealer that I know in a city not far from me and asked him about the windmills. According to him a well cut EC should always exhibit some form of windmill at the corners. How big or how large will depend on the ratio of the stone, 1.5:1 being the ideal.

If an EC exists without them, then I think the cut may be off.

i just have to say that i have recently been able to see a Krupps cut Asha and it is gorgeous. i'm not a step-cut fan, but i couldn't help but be hypnotized by how lovely it was!
