ok, so majority say keep it, or switch to ruby or ceylon.

Thanks for all the input. I really want an old ring and I just have to find the right one. :)This one however is 4 sizes too big, but there aren't any stones on the shank. I'm hoping they can redo the shank? If so I think I'm gonna put this on layaway. smile

I would say ruby first and any other stone with a lot of color like a tsavorite or a bright blue sapphire next. No surprise, as I like bright stones, but in particular in a ring with this much goldwork showing, I think a lighter stone like the one in there gets lost, but some love the look, but I voted ruby.

Having said that, if you want a more subtle look, then a lighter stone would do that, so I think it's more what effect you are going for..... bright - hey look at me... or soft subtle....
