I just sent a PM to poppyseed. Heavens, I had put this custom idea out of my mind so that I wouldn't stress out about it, and now I'm getting all excited about it again. Danger, danger!

Stuller item # 60075 Mounting only is available so the sides could be changed to rubies, emeralds, sapphires or all 3. wink Photo is shown with a 1 carat center.

Stuller item# 67322 This is also showing a half carat, but can be ordered for a 1 carat center. But only comes with diamond side stones

Stuller item # 64763 Shown with a 1/2 carat center, but can be ordered with a 1 carat center setting. I've seen this one in person, very pretty. smile I couldn't get a photo to post for it. frown

Just some fun suggestions that I think could be done in your price range.

Enhancer option for a solitaire: 120020

Oh my, how could I forget my favorite solitaire setting from Adwar of all time, my DH loved this:
Have to see the alternate side view - it's just beautiful!

My goodness, Theresa! Thank you for all of your help. Your final suggestion above of "your favorite solitaire setting of all time" was actually one that I put in the original pool of options. I have seen that ring in person and I actually came dangerously close to buying it on impulse because it's so interesting. But it was eliminated from this project because it's too busy for my friend's taste, particularly from the side view. She would call it "the crazy octopus prongs" or something - ha.

I also kicked around the idea of an enhancer/guard, but she would need a traditional solitaire for that and the height of those are too much for her. She said that anything set as high as my stone (traditional height) would drive her nuts, and I believe her.

I'm working really hard to think like her, but it's so hard to find the infinitely fine line between too plain and too busy.

I said I wouldn't take on the stress of a custom setting... I am failing here... I'm supposed to be writing my thesis paper for school and instead I'm lost in the intrigue of all this jewelry......................

kanga! I found it!!!!!!! It only took me 6 hours. Oy, do I have some crossed eyes.

It is a discontinued Novell setting. I found one lonely online store that still has it listed, but with "Sorry, this item has been discontinued." Here's the link: http://www.jgkronenberger.com/store/prod...er_Value=Ladies

I don't think you should over stress yourself with having a custom setting made for her. It's just too personal IMO.

So ok,

- simple ring but with a bit of pizzaz
- max $1K for ring + wedding band
- low set
- 1ct centre stone

am I missing anything?

Yep, Valentine, you got it all right.

I bounced some PMs with poppyseed yesterday and she can actually get us the custom setting with four rubies, within our budget and withing our time frame. WOW! Poppy rocks!

But I don't have the boy on board with this yet. He's reeeeally scared to commit to custom work. I certainly understand his fears, as I have them to, just not quite as much.

If nothing comes of the custom route with this project, maybe kanga or someone else reading this will be the one to order this ring from poppyseed someday. I believe in the theory that once something is in motion, it may not go where/when/how/with who you thought it would go, but it will go somewhere.

So we wait. He has a good pool of options in front of him, he knows his time frame and various return/exchange options with different vendors, and he'll make peace with something.

Time for an update to the 25th Anniversary ring!

The days are moving forward, Poppyseed is helping us and somehow managing to survive our neuroses and insecurities. Bless her heart.

Now we are so close to commitment time, and The Boy and I are both awake in the middle of night, quaking in fear over our decisions. What do we doooo? What do we doooo?

We're tossed up between two different three-stone rings that utilize rubies as side stones, to connect with The Girl's original set that has ruby sides. It's such a romantic and meaningful plan. But it's also a plan that's filled with little hidden devils. Those little dudes are starting to show up now more than ever. And they're scarier than ever. *whimper-whimper-squeeeeeeee*

We're thinking now about going with a single solitaire, and then letting The Girl decide on her own what kind of band she wants to put with it -- maybe rubies. I realize that this seems like a very practical and stress-reducing plan, but isn't that what Chicken Little said as he ran down the road screaming?

I totally understand Chicken Little right now. He's my kindred spirit.
