It does stink. When Schubach's received Milady's Lily to make the modifications, Joe very courteously emailed me, noting that we had discontinued it, and requested our permission to copy the design for his customers. We appreciated the request and politely declined - even though it's currently discontinued, we hope to one day begin making it again. Besides which, it's our design, one of our babies, and we want to keep it proprietary.

In any case, this is the type of professional courtesy and integrity that we've grown to expect, so it's quite a shock when someone completely disregards another designer's property this way.

SIGH. Maybe it just means that we've "arrived", eh? When our designs are being copied, it's quite a compliment I suppose.

Really does stink. I think Lily is gorgeous, always have. At the same time that Joe from Schubachs was very courteous, the Lily design is not copyrighted. They can do what they want. (right? I think?) It may not be the type of professionalism you'd expect, but as I am sure you know, people can dissapoint you....

Even copyrighted designs are knocked off all the time. It's a reflection on the jeweler doing the copying. And many unique and proprietary designs are not copyrighted.

Interestingly, I emailed Catherine Ryder and brought it to their attention, and requested removal from their site.

I received this reply just now from someone named Roger Frysh:

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. The piece has been removed from our site."

Ummmm, that was simple. But haven't they already manufactured it and distributed it to some stores?

I'm more confused than ever, lol.

looks like they own several online retail stores. They use the same website layout.

This reminds me of ebay sellers who steal our pics. Happens pretty often. Sometimes they squeeze the image or try to alter the color, but our images are pretty unique and I remember most of our stones and can spot them pretty quickly. They always leave them up until they're caught, then remove them. Then, sure enough, a few weeks later they're using another one of our photos.

Very interesting! I bet they're also behind the other couple of sites that sell "Catherine Ryder" pieces (they all have Georgia or Texas locations). Maybe there's no Catherine Ryder after all - could just be a brand they made up!
