I bought a lemon yellow sapphire 6x6 cushion cut. I plan on using it for her engagement ring.
I'm starting to have second thoughts about the sapphire though. The lemon yellow vs natural yellow sapphire. How do they compare as far as color? From what I see online, the lemon yellow look lighter than the natural ones. This is going to be her engagement ring, so i want whatever i choose to be the right choice. Thanks for any responses. I also ordered a lemon yellow sapphire through the custom cut option, but haven't received it yet. It's my understanding that natural yellow sapphires come in a range of colors, so that there is no one single "correct" yellow color: http://www.thenaturalsapphirecompany.com/Education2/sapphire-varieties/yellow-sapphires/ Pics of the different shades of yellow: http://www.thenaturalsapphirecompany.com/Sapphires/Yellow/ Thanks Macy. I guess ill just have to judge for myself when I receive it. By the way, do you have an idea when they could be shipped?

I ordered an elongated cushion ( 8 x 6) ruby and plan (tentatively) to have it set in a platinum halo ring that I already own. Those plans my change as I haven't seen it yet . I've never done this before and was a bit nervous about a custom ( no return) order. However, a real ruby of that size, color and cut is out of the question, so I decided to go for it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll be happy with the results.

Lovemesomerocks, thanks for posting those links. Those rubies are gorgeous and I'm excited to see mine. I didn't realize that I'd be able to return it ( I am sooo abstract random and tend not to look at the details!) but hope I won't have to. I may be crazy but I have a really gorgeous platinum/diamond halo setting that I'm hoping to put it in... an approx. $300 sim. ruby in a $3500 setting. I am a little bit crazy, aren't I? But I figure the sim. will look totally believable in a quality setting.

A lot of us have spent thousands on settings to put a lab grown stone or sim in them. It is just like you said, the amazing setting makes the stone all the believable...and gives you that high end look, but for a fraction of the cost.

Actually, from what I can tell from the photos, the lemon yellow Avarra sapphire is the color of an earthmined unheated yellow sapphire which are more rare and therefore more expensive. Most of the deeper yellow sapphires that you see are heated (or BE heated) so I certainly wouldn't be worried about it not looking like a nice sapphire. Here is the thread showing my new (to me) unheated yellow sapphire. It's a bit lighter in person, but not much.... I also have a heated sapphire and it's the deeper yellow color that you are talking about. If someone questions you about the color of your sapphire and you don't want to disclose that it is a lab created stone, just tell them that it's not been heated....you won't be lying. http://betterthandiamond.com/discussion/...vers#Post707111
