As I read the comments here some people mention their jobs in passing, I find that I'm always so interested in what the other ladies do. We spend so much time together here ( whistle grin blush ) that I think it would be a fun thing to share.

I'll start:

I teach nursing at the bachelors and masters level. I also practice as a nurse on the weekends. I have a strange love for stocks so I play a little bit on the side, but just for fun smile. When we have kids (in 5 years or so) I hope to take some time off, financial situation permitting, and stay home with the little ones for a few years. That is something I love about nursing, it is a very flexible field, you can work 12-60 hours peer week.

Ok that's me smile

I have a bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Masters in Mental Health Counseling, before my daughter was born I worked with birth mothers at an adoption agency. When my daughter was born I wanted to stay home with her so I took a few years off. My marriage was really bad but I held on until she started pre-school. Then I got back into the working world by working at a brokerage firm with my mom. This allowed me to have flexibility with with the sudden predicament of worrying about childcare. I moved to a different office from her, got my Series 7 and Series 66 licenses and worked on a brokerage team as a client liaison. I recently went back to work with my mom now that she's sick but I'm studying for the Series 9/10 to take a management position the company offered me smile

Many, many years ago, in a country far away I used to be a business owner - I owned a printing company. When we emigrated to the US in 1991 I was unable to work because of our visas, so we decided it was time to expand our family. My husband and I are somewhat old fashioned and agreed that I should stay at home with the children, which is what I've been doing for the last 20 years. I homeschooled my son for a few years back in the 90's, and my daughter up until she graduated last year.

My husband is an IT executive with a large company, and a few years ago was encouraged to start a consulting business. He loves his job and decided not to leave, but to do the consulting as a sideline, so I was "recruited" to run the business. Fortunately, we run the business from home and it doesn't keep me too busy so I still have time to hang out around here........

Hahahha, I was WRONG!

1991 was when thousands of Russians were finally able to leave the USSR.

Once upon a time, I was a kitchen designer and worked in a showroom putting kitchens together for people. I loved that job! Then I got married and became a stay at home wife/mom... I divorced and tried selling real estate, but didn't feel the calling and an oportunity opened up at a kitchen showroom, so I went back to kitchen sales. I still loved my job!

But things at home weren't so good. I was working "part" time, which basically was underpaid full time, as I ended up going in more hours than we had agreed on, until I ran into the trifecta of super stressful jobs. My kids were left with a sitter in the afternoons, and homework wasn't being done, plus they were stressed as well and flunking school. So I went back to being a stay at home mom...

I now make jewelry and sell it locally and at my etsy shop. I do miss going somewhere for work and the interaction I once had, but at the same time love that I'm home with my kids, who will very soon will grow up and won't need me as much, and have the flexibility to work when I want or can do it. smile

I'm a retired circus performer/dancer. I went to a performing arts high school, then college and on to conservatory. I went into a company and then auditioned for the circus (I had studies circus arts growing up) which I was selected for. I traveled for years, then went private and continued to perform. That's how I met my husband and declined another contract which would have taken me far away. At that point I settled down with him and was funded to teach circus arts in the inner city while taking jobs that came my way. Mostly with bands, parades, festivals etc. After getting pregnant with my first, I had to stop.

After my second was born I went to medical school. During school I felt called and later got ordained. I'm now working as a minister in a medical practice which serves autistic/special needs kids. I love it. It's part time and I make my own schedule for the most part. My kids are young, so as they get older I can fill my schedule more.

I've had a crazy life.

Early 90's was also a time when many people started leaving South Africa in droves. In fact, it became known as the decade of "the brain drain" as thousands of doctors, lawyers, and highly educated people started leaving the country for the US, Europe and Australia. I live in a small town in the Southern US, and you would be amazed at how many South African doctors and lawyers there are in town!!!
