I definately dont want it to look completely different from a standard RB diamond- I'm just not sure how different the Amora will look and dont have a RB diamond I can compare it to-

Because there will ALWAYS be people who want diamonds or other gemstones (natural or created). That does not mean anything is wrong with moissanite! Even amongst moissanite people there are people who want unenhanced, want Amora, etc.

Not everyone wants a Porsche, either wink It is all about having choices.

There are also lots of people (I know, as I see them on other boards) who are hung up on this idea that moissanite is "fake diamond". I am not sure why this is, probably partly the fault of early and continued marketing, but these are also the same who generally consider white sapphires, white topaz...anything colourless as trying to be something it is not. There is a big logic fail in my view there! Every stone is its own stone. Just because some people seem to believe the only gemstones that are colourless are diamonds and everything else is trying to be it, does not mean they are right!

The cut of a round moissanite IS different than that of "most" diamonds. However, generally most (as in almost all) people you meet will only see "shiny colourless stone" and not be very educated on the moissanite cut, nor will be looking closely for it. Other cuts are less identifiable as moissanite. There is a bit more sparkle to moissanite, but again, I guarantee most people will have no clue. If you are trying to pass it as diamond (I don't, but I assume this is your intention) then choosing a stone in your price range for a diamond is a good idea too as it is less likely to be questioned in the first place. And, if she really is comfortable with moissanite, maybe she won't want to pass it as a diamond anyway.

I definitely agree you need to be 100& sure of what she actually wants.

As others have said, it is all just about personal choice and some people have different priorities. To me though, her responses do not sound like she 100% convinced. So maybe seeing a loose stone in real life will convince her, or maybe she wants a diamond, but feel like you don't want to buy her one...and she really wants to be engaged. I was one of those that wanted a real diamond, and I am certain I would have been disappointed had my DH wanted to buy me an alternative. But I would have accepted it because I loved him, however it would have made me sad. For my additional pieces, I am happy to have alternatives. smile So, I would just make sure, because from what you are saying she does not sound convinced to me.

Maybe more people than you think DO do it! Most of us just naturally assume that the e-ring someone wears is diamond. It is possible that you have seen engagement rings out there and they ARE moissanite, you just don't know it! smile

It sounds to me like she wants a diamond.

If thats the case find out what cut she loves and we can help you find a great stone at a great price!

Not necessarily. I felt the same way once I understood what moissanite was. It hardly seemed possible that such an affordable, durable, and attractive stone gets so little attention. I understand now, but it was a process.

Thanks all for the insight,I know she wouldnt want me to spend a fortune on a ring, but i would want to,I personally would like to be proud of the e-ring as well. And your right, no one ever asks if its a diamond b/c we assume it is.... But if amora is supposedly "better" than a diamond I cant believe the monopoly hasnt blown up by now... Obvi it takes ppl like myself to try moissy and convert over, b/c I dont think their growth comes from word of mouth

I think Im just gonna order the stone and go from there-I always liked a solitaire setting so that would be my choice to probably set locally, with with gold or platinum. Most people on these boards have all had good things to say about amora and thats probably whats making it hard for me to decide. If someone would dislike it, my decision would be easier! =)

On a second note we both went to a comedy club one night and there was a girl in front that had crazy brilliance on her e-ring, didnt think of it at the time since I never heard of moissy but now after being on the boards I almost feel certain it must have been!

I think seeing it in real life is an excellent idea, for both of you! smile And then you can decide together.

I think that in the end it comes down to two things.
First. Do you like the look of the stone in real life? If you do then...
Second. Can you/she get over DeBeers marketing/brainwashing enough to understand that moissanite is a gemstone in its own right with value and worth. Or will she feel like a fake or fraud because of diamond conditioning?

I am copying this from another post I made because I think it could be helpful:

I chose moissanite for the price, but for different reasons than some may think. After I lost my original wedding set, I wanted to upgrade for the replacement (I originally had a .6ct center stone). My husband and I were looking at diamonds in the 2ct range, and we were prepared to pay the price difference between the insurance replacement coverage for my old set and the new set. Being the thrifty shopper I am, I started researching how to get the best deals (estate pieces and the like) and just happened upon betterthandiamond.com because I was curious when it popped up on my google search. I was immediately interested when I saw Asha and Amora moissanite.

I immediately began obsessively researching. I decided Asha was out because I'm rough on jewelry. I was sure moissanite couldn't look as good in person as it did online, but I ordered a 3ct Amora just to see. I was shocked at how much I loved it. I thought I would be able to distinguish it from a diamond for sure because I had spent so much time looking at diamonds throughout my replacement search. I went straight to my jeweler to compare, and I couldn't tell the Amora moissy from diamonds of a similar size and color (H-J diamonds compared to I moissy). I was even more surprised that my jeweler couldn't either. He even measured both stones to make sure he didn't have them mixed up.

Long story short, I am waiting on my 3ct Amora moissanite to be set in a custom setting with 2cttw of diamonds for $100 more than the replacement cost of my original set with a .6ct center stone and about .5 cttw of side and band diamonds. I did choose moissanite for the cost, but not because we couldn't afford the diamond set. IMO it would have been crazy to still choose to spend 15K or so (even with getting a good deal) on a 2ct diamond when I could have a 3ct moissy in my dream setting and band for 4K. I am so glad I happened upon moissy because I would have spent the extra money otherwise and it wouldn't have made a difference because no one in my life will ever know the difference.

I plan to pass my moissanite as a diamond, and I can't imagine ever meeting anyone who will know it isn't one. I know many people will wonder if it is fake or even assume, but they would have done that even if I had shelled out the money for 3ct diamond (there were some 3ct estate pieces in our price range). Considering this, I don't understand why anyone would pay so much more money for the basically same thing (a near colorless stone that sparkles like crazy and many people assume is fake in the higher carat weights). I don't mind that many people choose not to get a moissanite, and actually that is better for me. The fact that most people know very little or nothing about moissanite means there is next to no chance anyone in real life will be able to distinguish mine from a diamond.
