Well, after many years of claiming to LOVE princess cut diamonds, it turns out I've been had. Every jeweler I've ever purchased princess cut diamonds from or even shopped with, have sold me Square Brilliants, LOL. I'd never heard this term until a few months ago, so I got out a magnifying glass and REALLY looked at my diamonds. Turns out? I absolutely LOVE Square Brilliant cuts...who knew??? Unfortunately I am in the minority it would seem, so I can't find any pictures of a Square Moissanite on a real hand!! Do any of you lovely ladies have any to show me? I'm debating getting one loose to have set into my old engagement ring, which I never wear but hate that it's an empty setting...but I don't want to spend the $$ unless I know it's exactly what I'm hoping for. Thank you!!!

Here's a great pic (especially the 4th one down) illustrating the difference between a princess cut (Wink CZ) and a moissy square brilliant.

Thank you!!! Yup, a square brilliant is really a round brilliant in a square shape (square brilliants can also have H&As), whereas a princess cut has its own facet pattern, and generally pointed corners, rarely cut corners. KB, in case you're comparing apples to apples and want to pass it off as a diamond, the square brilliant moissy won't look the same as a square brilliant diamond. The faceting will definitely be different. Just thought I'd mention it.

Excuse my rube-like confusion, but I thought Moissanite's were better looking than a diamond, and now you said that the square brilliant moissanite won't pass as a diamond? Some have said that about the RB, too, that some can tell a mile away that its a RB moissanite and not a diamond. Why spend all that money on moissanite if it doesn't look real? I'm so sorry, but I'm so confused, very, very baffled. From what I can tell, the RB moissanite, although definitely cut differently from an ASHA CZ, from photos, they look like regular run of the mill RB real diamonds that everyone else has and they look quite pretty to me. I'm getting mixed messages when I read the majority saying they love their moissanites, and others saying certain cuts wouldn't pass the muster of looker like real diamonds. I would like to look at one for real, but I don't know of any jewelers in my part of town that carries them. Did I hear that JC Penny's might carry them?

Dastardly:
1. Not everyone wants or cares to pass their Moissanite as diamond. 2. There are some cuts that differ from traditional diamond cuts more than others. This is because moissanite is cut to enhance the qualities of moissanite. Not to copy a diamond. 3. Some people are more attuned to cut differences than others. Just as some are more colour or clarity sensitive! 4. It is real. It is real moissanite. Not "fake diamond".
There seems to be a theme to your posts of doubting or questioning those who love moissanite as some others had issues with them, Not everyone will like it, sure, but nor does everyone like an H&A, D, VVS1, 3ct diamond, and others would love it!
I have unenhanced OEC moissanites and love love love them. Someone who knows what to look for (extra sparkle, more "fire" from extra dispersion) can identify it as moissanite, and no one has so far but so far I actually like telling people who assume it is diamond that it is moissanite. Most people just compliment them, however.
I did not want diamond, for many reasons (though some are certainly beautiful!). I was not interested in Asha as it is too white, and I am too hard on my jewelery. Also, I want "forever" stones that I can set in forever settings and leave set forever. Especially since my ring and pendant are full bezels! I also prefer not to have coatings. And I love moissanite, it is what want to wear!
Order one and decide for yourself how you feel about it. You can return it. JC Penney does carry some but it may be older stock, unenhanced/no Amora, and limited cuts and sizes.
If you want something that is going to really look like a diamond though, in cut, you are better off getting an Asha, and/or maybe the H&A Amora Gem when available.

KB, in case you're comparing apples to apples and want to pass it off as a diamond, the square brilliant moissy won't look the same as a square brilliant diamond. The faceting will definitely be different. Just thought I'd mention it. My thoughts exactly! KaterBels has written in another post (from Who has a princess cut? Does it look real ?) that she likes SB moissy b/c it looks like the SB diamonds she's seen: I am a HUGE fan of what I'll call 'square diamonds' and have been for many years. I'm still in love with the diamond from my first engagement ring, which I was told was a .53 ct princess cut. After my crazed search to find a perfect engagement ring this time around, I noticed that what the jewelry stores in my area ALL call Princess Cuts are actually all Square Brilliants. This forum is what first led me to this conclusion, since I too was concerned that any square stone other than a diamond had a much smaller table and looked visibly different and I hated it. I wanted it to look exactly like all my square brilliant jewelry. I finally decided to do a side by side picture comparison of similar rings from Asha Diamonds and Moissanite Co. The difference is HUGE! Asha's are true princess (I think, I've never actually seen a true princess) while Moissanite is the Square Brilliant I'm used to. Since I've heard both websites use actual photos of actual rings and not computer images, this cinched it for me. Apparently I am very much not a fan of princess cuts, but am a lunatic for Square Brilliants. Do you think this could be the same story for you?
