The one of biggest retailers of lab diamonds opens sell directly. What I can say? It is really cool and amazing. We can count on good prices!

When they have the exact same chemical composition and one is cheaper... the choice is obvious from where i'm standing, but that's definitely a matter of personal preference, some find value in "natural" stones, some don't smile

Even if it costed the same, I'm more eager and happy to support companies who are trying to advance this kind of technology... like BTD and now Gemesis. smile

I understand that there are many reasons why someone would want to go with a lab vs. a natural diamond, and I myself am interested - but not at those prices. I know there are costs involved, it's a business, and profits need to be made for it to continue on, which is fine. But for me, as a potential consumer...the price points on the lab grown diamonds just don't hit the mark. I like what Gemesis is doing, but unless they find a way to make their lab grown diamonds significantly cheaper than natural diamonds, I don't know that I will ever be purchasing one. I can only hope that someday, the art of growing diamonds in a lab setting will be perfected to the point where amazing diamonds can be had at a relatively low cost, like what's happened with lab colored stones. It would be a serious shame if lab diamonds came with a super-inflated price just like their natural counterparts.

I don't think lab diamonds will ever be "significantly" cheaper than mined.

Are they really THAT much more difficult to culture than Moissanite, or the upcoming Amora Gem?

I understand that they're real diamond, and will command a "premium" still, but really? Get to the $1,000/ct. (or so) mark and then we'll see if I suddenly have trouble deciding between the Amora Gem and diamonds.

Again, the only advantages to diamond are the hardness and the "traditional" sheople mentality.

The thing now with diamonds is they are being used in many more places than a gold basket on a ring. The computer industry comes to mind right away. That is why the price will stay high. The demand is high right now. You can bet that Gemesis is not only marketing to us but to them too.

I agree with all the comments here. The price point is not there for me either. I mentioned this post to my fiance this morning and he balked at the price too. We are not your typical "consumers" who fall for all the marketing hype. Yes, it's great that these white lab created diamonds are available. Maybe a pair of solitaire earrings would be where I would start but the price point would definitely need to be somewhere in that $1000/carat range for me as well.

While I don't know for sure, I would say that diamonds *are* that much more difficult to grow. BTD has been at it for years, as has Gemesis, and some others that have already closed their doors. If it could be done faster and easier and cheaper, I think we would be seeing some results of that.

Or, the Amora Gem will take over the diamond industry entirely! MUAH-HA-HA-HA-HAAAAA!!!

...yep.

How cool would that be, though?! Then, bling wouldn't be so much about showing "how much richer I am than you are," but actually be about creativity and personal expression through the art of jewelry! =D
