I use Zantac when need and tums and eno the rest of the time. I have to take the 150mg twice a day on really bad days. I find when I am really gassy/heartburny, the vomiting and nausea and gagging is worse, so I try to keep a grip on it. There was actually a study done a few years relating stomach acid to pregnancy related nausea and vomiting and they are connected. www.motherisk.com is a good resource. If you can stomach vinegar, it has a lot of health benefits, but if you can't, you gotts do what you gotta do. I don't like pills either, but you can't be vomiting and gagging 24/7...

Reading your posts has brought back a flood of memories for me when I was pregnant-25-26 yrs ago! I had morning sickness all day, every day with both of my pregnancies-it was insane. I used to get hosptialized for severe dehydration. The first time it happened they gave me Compazine IV-I had a terrible reaction to it where my muscle would cramp, lock and cycle from my face, neck and upper back. I looked like a lizard because my tongue would go out -it was awful. They gave me so much benedryl to get it to stop, and I basically passed out from exhaustion and benadryl-woke up hours later. After I had my son-I got pregnant 9 mos later with my second son-I never did like Math! the same thing all over again(minus the Compazine). I continued to work the entire time as a nurse up until days of delivering both of them. When I think about it now, I must have been crazy-I should have laid down on the kitchen floor and refused to go on! I take my hat off to all of you, I know how you feel.

SB, that sounds like hyperemesis. A lucky 1-2% of pregnant women get it, myself included. Luckily the meds are a but better now, but they still have their own side effects. I went on sick leave w ith my first at 13 weeks pregnant, and I have never gone back. My hat is off to you for continuing to work through it, twice... I was not strong enough.

Yes,that is what I had hyperemesis both times. I couldn't stand myself, I always felt so gross. They nicked name me "Carla" at work after Carla on Cheers. I was not mean to my patients-never would do that or my co-workers,I just could not stand it because I never felt good-my personality became somewhat of a smarty pants. In my department we were all around the same age and many of us were pregnant at the same time. The rest all glowed and looked wonderful. I did not, but I had 2 very healthy sons, the oldest now works for a goverment investigation agency and the youngest is an officer in the Army-I upon occasion let them know what I went through to bring into the world though!

haha, I am the same. I am on the same meds they give to chemo patients, and honestly, I imagine that this is what it feel like to be getting chemo; except it goes on for 9 whole months without any off time. And I am on other meds too that make me dizzy and really sleepy. I still often don't keep down water. I am NOT the glowy bouncing pregnant girl wearing heels and shopping for baby clothes. I do not look healthy at all, lol. I am pale and nauseous, and dizzy, lol. After birth though, it goes away immediately, and I get the glow for a few days...until the sleep deprivation settles in. So 2 will be good for me too. And I have every intention of letting them know how horrible it was when they are older. My first pregnancy, I got so depressed, I *wished and prayed* the baby would just go away. That is not a normal thought, but I was so sick. This time, I have to take care of DD still, so I have not let it get to me as much, but there were days when I regretted getting pregnant again. Again, not normal healthy thoughts, but ones of desperation and defeat.
No one really understand hyperemesis...unless they have had it. They just think you are being wimpy and that it is like the same "morning sickness" they have. ha, they have no idea.

Yes, I am on Zofran, and Diclectin. Diclectin is not used in the States I believe, but it is widely prescribed here. I have weekly IVs, sometimes twice a week, but my hydration is considered managed now. I go to the hospital for them, but am in the IV therapy room, so it is not that time consuming. My weight was down 15lbs in the first trimester, but now I am holding steady. I will probably gain in the last...at least that is what happened last time. My body is already getting water retention though, lol.

Oh wow! I had no idea there was an actual condition. My first pregnancy was terrible. I missed weeks of work, felt like if I rolled over in bed I would die. The nausea and dizzy spells were so bad. When I talked to the dr she said she could give me meds but I didn't feel comfortable doing that. She made me feel like a big baby even though I had lost 20 pounds. I asked what else I could do and she said drug the baby so you can be comfortable or tough it out! what a B! i'm sorry there are plenty of things she could have done that don't affect the baby!
