From the other side of the coin, self esteem building is critical! For all points. Mental, physical and emotional.
I try really really hard to make sure my children have balance, are proud of themselves, can laugh at themselves and are ok acknowledging what they need to work on and actually work on it.
My little girl came home from the play ground talking about a diet! I was so horrified that I needed to take 10 minutes to collect my thoughts before I talked to her about it.
I was raised by a horrible woman who never missed an opportunity to belittle me, call me fat and hurt me every chance she got. I was starved and had things taken away from me if I didn't loose weight or if I gained weight depending on where I was through the years.
Maybe I am extra sensitive to the issue of beauty and self esteem but I refuse to raise anything but children that are happy with themselves and kind decent contributing members of society. I'm so sorry to hear that you went through all of this - it sounds like we have similar experiences. I am glad you are instilling love and self esteem into your children!

Nick, Are you sure your avatar isn't having that problem? He looks a little, um....uncomfortable.  Ahahaha!! I will never look at Pikachu the same again!! *GASP* It's not Pikachu!!! It's GIR dressed like Pikachu!!! Invader Zim. Look it up. Watch it. Love it. That was the best show!!1

WOW I love this thread (sorry I'm chiming in late)!! I found BTD through WeddingBee and I'm so glad I did!! I post there often, because I like to get feedback and also like to see pretty wedding things that I won't be having...but yes, it can be a tad dramatic over there!! I don't come here as often, but it's always a good experience, and positive and I got so many happy replies from everyone when I posted my $60 wedding set that I still completely adore. I posted in on the Bee and made the treacherous mistake of NOT divulging where it was from because I didn't think it was that big of a deal...WELL!! Someone actually posted a link to the thread I started here and called it a 'fake' and all of that and I was FLOORED!! I have diamonds, I have CZ's, I have lots of things and I love them all. In fact, after I lost DH1 I said to my sister (2 years before I even met my FI) that the next time around, I wanted a CZ instead of a diamond because they just weren't worth it!! Now? I have a CZ that I adore, a FI who loves me enough to go along with whatever I love, and life is good!! Plus, this way I get to own and wear as many wedding / engagement sets as I like over the years, because they're all affordable...win win!!
