I saw the previews for this episode of Dr. Oz and was very interested to hear it. Unfortunately, I missed it. However, I was able to find the clips on this segment and wanted to share with you.

Let me first let you know my stance on diet pills/drugs. I think they are dangerous, especially when they are abused or not taken as directed by a doctor. However, I think doing nothing at all is even more dangerous. In part 2 of the segment the personal trainer said something along the lines of, if someone needs this to believe in when they don't believe in themselves, then that is good. For some people weight loss is not easy and they may just need a push in the right direction. Paired with a healthy outlook on changing your lifestyles, so that you are not dependent on any drugs to stay thin, and a good exercise and good nutrition, I think these pills could be beneficial to those of us that need that jumpstart.

Dr. Oz- Qnexa

I think Dr. Oz presented this very fairly.

Here is a little more on the drug:

If this drug gets approval, would you consider discussing it with you doctor?

I would want to see studies and understand the mechanism by which it works. I'm leaning towards no, but I've done that in the past and have changed my mind with more information. As has Dr. Oz, who I've seen semi-endorse things and come back later to say "no dice." SO, we'll see.

I fully understand the need for a jump start, and also understand that weight loss is not a simple topic for many. The more we understand why different things work for different people the more I'm willing to stand back and say help is not necessarily a bad thing-so long as there aren't long term implications.

It always boils down to do the benefits out weigh (excuse the pun)side effects/risks? If you have life threatening illnesses associated with obesity, it may be worth the risks. If someone wants/needs to drop 20 lbs because he/she may want to look better in his/her clothes, maybe not.

it is. It also (to me) would matter what I'd tried before and what happened during the attempts.

I know for me to lose weight at a nice pace I need a metabolism boost. Skirting the perimeters of menopause has left calorie counting and exercising alone a slower process - and then because it takes so long there is a bigger window for a relapse!
