Does anyone own a clarity enhanced diamond? I stumbled upon them yesterday and read up a little bit about the pros on cons, 1 pro was the price. I would love to hear from anyone that has one! Thanks smile

I was at my jewelers the other day and they had one there... you could still see an inclusion where they had lasered out the carbon spot.. the stone was very sparkly but it wasn't like it took a SI or I clarity and made it VS

I don't have a clarity enhanced diamond. I do however, have a gorgeous pear diamond that has two carbon spots. My jeweler said they can be removed, but it's best not to because clarity enhancement compromises the integrity of the diamond. I prefer to leave the carbon spots anyway because they help to identify my diamond. smile

That is what I have always been told as well, that "enhanced" diamonds are weaker and more prone to chipping and cracking.

I also read that they put a substance in there to fill the hole they make but if you have subsequent work on the stone, when heated, it all shoots back out. That in itself (not being a permanent treatment) negates the benefit of the cost savings.

That's what I've heard too ... they're more prone to chipping, cracking, etc. down the road.

The ones im looking at have a lifetime warranty the company are the actual creators of the CE diamonds and (apparantly there are some bad ones going around because of a diff process used to treat the flaw), and the only way they will damage is it is put in direct fire or dipped in acid. It is supposed to wear exactly like a normal non treated diamond, he said that is shines and looks exactly like a non treated diamond and only a jeweler that puts it under a mag will It is a 1.5ct VS2 round brilliant E color and its only $3,900 vs $11,000!

<---- clarity enhanced diamond. Mine was laser drilled. From the top down, you can't see where it was lasered, but from the side if you study it there are little telltale needle-like inclusions that are most definately man made. All in all, it is a beautiful stone that I wouldn't have been able to afford otherwise. In some lights it looks kind of "murky" for lack of a better word but always sparkly. My jeweler set it without any problem, but I made sure to let him know ahead of time that it was clarity enhanced. I've had it about a year with no problems. If it chips, I'd be sad but it wouldn't be the end of the world. For the price I paid it doesn't owe me anything and I get compliments on my "rock" all the time. I look at it this way, I'll treat it extra nice and gentle and enjoy it while it lasts smile

My understanding is the above is not true, you will be told that by jewelers who do not sell clarity enhanced diamonds. See this article from Good Old Gold a well respected diamond dealer.

They can easily be re-enhanced for a nominal fee. If you don't expose it to a torch or acid, you have no worries. Simply inform your bench jeweler that it has been fracture filled so he/she does not expose the stone itself to the torch. Many enhanced diamond dealers will re-enhance it for free in the very unlikely event that the enhancement is reversed somehow.

Make sure if you purchase one they use the Yehuda type method of using silicon glass to fill the fracture vs bromide which can turn dark.

Being an educated consumer, being aware of above issues can save you thousands and you can get a bigger diamond than you may otherwise be able to afford. Of course the other C's need to be considered as well, Cut and Color.
