yep it is one wonkin' culet [eye role] i'm not too crazy about it. I wouldn't want a teenie culet either, just something in the medium range. IIRC erica poated on the size of the original culet on the moise being 'larger' than what one might expect in a comparable diamond...ok for an OMC but too large for an OEC. I think that was in Jan sometime, I coulnd't find it when I searched.
gorgeous faceting on the OEC though....

LOL, you all debate about large vs. Small culets... I'll kust wait for a Krupps... RB or Asscher if I can't have one.

I thought I was going to love this but as so many said, I can't get past that HUGE culet. It was the only thing I kept staring at and I think it is distracting from all the great facets. I will pass on this unless BTD can make batches with smaller culets.

Less can this cut be adjusted to a more medium sized open
culet? This stone is obviously beautiful in every other way and by no means am I being critical.

Just for a visual, the diamond cert for the diamond on the left describes this stone's culet as large.

I am not 100% certain that what we are seeing is a large culet. It may be the reflection of the tablet in the bottom of the stone. Here is a link to one of Wink's videos of an Infinity diamond and it shows a similar reflection. It has no culet because it is a RB.

http://www.highperformancediamonds.com/index.php?page=view-id-diamond-infinity&id=797

I remember Wink discussing this phenomenon in one of his educational videos or posts.

Yeah but you can see the flat edge of the culet on the bottom as the stone turns in the video. Which if it is the culet, what is the appearance of facets that is visible in the picture that isn't evident in the video? Was the picture photoshopped to show those facets near the culet then?
I sooo wanted to love this. I could see earrings and a RHR in my future. But unfortunately, not with that culet. It is gigantic. I'm sure it was needed due to the unique optical properties of the gem, but it just isn't pleasing to my eye. It kind of makes me worry about the step cuts to come, now. smirk
My other concern is that we aren't getting an accurate perspective of the gem with the fancy black background and lighting of these videos. (And possible photoshopping of the pics.) I wonder how much different these gems will actually be once they are viewed under more normal conditions? I hate to be a negative nelly bc I think BTD is a great company, but I am starting to doubt the gem a bit. I would looove to see some more real life videos of these gems to get a better idea of how they actually perform. There, I said it.

I wanted to love the Amora OEC as well. REALLY WANTED to love this. But I only like small culets, and this thing looks really awful, IMHO. However, not for a million years would I ever believe that Less would photoshop something and try to deceive anyone. eek

Thanks for the visual poppyseed! I was looking at pictures the other night but it was so hard to tell without a side by side comparison. I measured the photos and on my screen the large diamond culet is 6-7mm and the OEC comes in at a whopping 14-15mm. So IRL the culet is at least double a 'large' on the diamond grading scale?

Put me in the group that really, really, REALLY wants to love this cut but the culet is hard to get past. It might make it easier for me to go ahead with the Amora moissy OEC but I was hoping to love this and have an agonizing choice to make, lol. Did I say that I really want to love it? smile

And what poppy said, I don't mean to be critical. I was one who was begging for the OEC cut so I don't want to be a downer now. Amora Gem is exciting and I may still end up with a cushion or round if the OEC isn't for me but my fear is that the XL culet will make the cut less appealing for many...after all the hard work and stealth invested by our favorite cut/designer guy that would be a shame.
