Yup.

I only occasionally lurk on PS now, partly because of their anti-moissy/lab stones stance which does not work for me since I love my moissanite (except it is okay to post about lab diamonds in the near dead lab diamond forum) and a few of the politics, or certain posters who could get a little...high and mighty on others. It can get a bit...consumerist...too. Not surprising given the focus is on diamond consumer education, but sometimes it can be a bit out of or distant from most people's reality (people owning multiple huge stones is not the norm for most people I know in real life!) and add a lot of pressure on some that I saw.

They used to, a long long time ago, be more open about moissy, etc. Now people have to skirt around it (even though a few there do wear moissy or CZ as well!) and suspected posts of alternatives get sniffed out (not all though, there are some I remember being suspect about that never seemed called out or anything!).

They do have great eye candy and are a great resource for learning about diamonds, gems, metals, settings, etc.

I only go on PS to look at pretty pieces and really large stones. Other than that it's pretty useless to me. All of those "I only have $40,000 to spend how will I possibly find a decent stone, help me please!" threads annoy the hell out of me. ONLY $40,000????

It is worse when someone says in response to that, in all seriousness, "well, you are going to have to decide which of the 4Cs you are willing to sacrifice a little", ha ha!

I know right? Sacrifice?? You have 40 GRAND to spend on a ROCK! That's why I love moissanite. My center stone would be $40k if it was a diamond but instead the entire ring is $3,400. Woot woot!

$40K gets me a really nice car and I can still have a wonderful moissy or Asha ring... Why would I spend it all on a rock that still chips when whacked?

Because 9 times out of 10 I see people are convinced that diamonds are impervious to any damage and thus "worth it". The marketing is really THAT good at getting people to buy in. I don't know how often on various forums I see things like "my diamond has a chip/crack - I did not think this could happen to a diamond". Some have even thought they had their stone swapped when their diamond ended up with a chip or crack!

People who have not done more research do not understand that there is a difference between toughness (against scratches) and durability (of course diamond has natural cleavage which with the right hit...craaack!, and look at all those older diamonds with chipped girdles!). Never mind telling them there are other stones that can withstand higher heat (like moissanite) than their diamond.
