In the world of rings, not much has not already been done in my opinion. Though I am kind of surprised no one has copied my ring yet*: *not really my ring but I hope whoever is wearing it is enjoying it...in all its lobsterificness! WHAT is that??? lol

I think that since the customers here are asked to first contact a vendor regarding any grievance then post only if no resolution occurred, I think the same would be appropriate for this situation. I think contacting David privately to voice concerns would have been best and if he said something akin to "you don't know me, I do what I want" then it would be a topic for debate. Of course, because he is a gentleman and a wonderful human being (and not on the Jerry Springer show)so he would not say that. That was my attempt to bring a little humor to the situation,.... I don't think we should be discussing his work, virtues, or professionalism without him getting to have primary input. I am really sad this has been handled in a way that may make the poster who owns the "copy" to feel bad about her ring or that targets David Klass as the only one who does this. How many lurkers may have had copies or replicas made my local jewelers as well?
A general reminder about copyright, info that certain designs were copyrighted or in the process, and that people should check or have their jeweler check would have sufficed along with private off forum communication with David Klass about the issue.
This reminds me of a past PS debacle where a member copied a non-copyrighted design of a ring that another member owned, and she and the maker of her "copy" were horribly singled out, in my opinion, for never checking with the owner of the original ring first. Of course that was not copyrighted, but as I know it neither is this one at the time nor was it at the time. It was a pretty terrible debacle.
Maybe it is professional courtesy, but professional courtesy cannot be enforced nor should it be used as a universal standard to single others out, in my opinion, in a public forum. I agree with both of you. My fiancé is an artist. I understand how frustrating it can be when someone steals or imitates an original idea. However, this happens all the time. Designs for ANY type of artwork get stolen all the time. My fiancé has said that as irritating as this may be, in an odd way it's a sort of compliment and there isn't much you can do about it anyway. In my opinion, it's unprofessional for a vendor to post something like this in a public forum. I have to agree with the previous poster who said this leaves a bad taste in her mouth, because I feel the same way. Honestly, I have admired many of JbEG's pieces, but after this thread I would think twice before I gave my business to them.
