I'm having DK do a custom surprise halo solitaire with a sapphire. I have a 8mm round currently and I got a hankering to go bigger and ordered a 9mm today. Now, I got to thinking, will that be such a honker that it will look like a cocktail ring? Maybe I should stick with 8mm?

I sure wish they had a 8.5mm! That would be perfect!

I think it totally depends on your preference, hand, finger size, style, context, lifestyle, personality.

My own husband who does not spend his time browsing jewelery forums would say "yes". jcent and many other of the sparkly sisters on this forum would say "absolutely not!".

lol, I was going to suggest yesterday that MT3B consider the 9mm cushion. I bought a 9mm before I bought the 10mm, but found it small. It looked like 8mm to me, lol. And my 10mm looks like 9mm to me.

I have a pink zircon which is 8.8mm and which I've though of making a cocktail ring with. My fingers are size 5.5/5.75.

I don't know how to set it because it's quite large! It's beautiful though.

Jcent, you crack me up! However, I hear ya! I prefer VERY modest in size with diamonds, but with sapphires, I love big.

I searched everywhere and finally found a jewelry store that had a stone holder 50 miles from my house (we live in the country), so now I'm wearing the 8mm. It's a really nice size, but I'm curious what I'll think of the 9mm. I'll have that Friday, so I'll let you all know how I like it. I really want a 8mm cushion, but I put a WTB ad on the bistro and still nothing, darn it!

I'm a size 5.5 and don't think I'd ever go beyond an 8mm. Anything above that does look cocktail.

Lorrissey, I used to say things like that, lol. Now I am up to 10mm. Things start to look smaller sometimes.
