...and am so excited that I will finally get my studs. I first walked into a jewelry store, to look at diamond stud earrings, when I first graduated from college, as a registered nurse. A very bad marriage and 32 yrs later,I have never gotten my studs. I happened to flip thru my TV channels last week & discovered moissanite on JTV. I didn't buy any but that led to me googling for more info on moissanite. That led me to this forum. Now, I finally have my long ago dream of diamond stud earrings in sight. I had long since given up on my dream. Nine yrs. after my divorce, I know I will never have an engagement ring (my husband never did get me one)since there is no way I will ever put myself in the position again to even consider getting re married. So, for me, my "diamond" will be a pair of moissanite studs that I will get for myself. Real diamond studs are not in my future since I am raising my 16 yr old son on my own. College is not too many yrs. away & my son will always be my top priority. But, that is absolutely fine since I am thrilled with all I have, so far, found out about moissanite. It is hard to describe what it means to me to be able to revive a long lost dream. So, far, from my research & reading this forum, I have come to the conclusion that I want round brilliant studs. I am leaning towards 6.5 mm studs. I have been trying to imagine what the various sized mm studs will look like in my ears. I don't want them too big & I don't want them too small either. I have spent some time these past few days trying to visualize what a 6.5mm stud would actually look like. I have even taken my measuring tape (it has millimeters as well as inches)& measured the heads of screws and/or nails of items within my house to see what 6.5mm actually looks like. Silly, I know. I am not a big person. I am 5'4" & 130 lbs. So, I am thinking 6.5mm is a good size. The more I read this forum, the more questions I have. I originally began my research trying to find out more about what JTV calls Elite moissanite and Fire moissanite. From what I gathered while listening to the TV show hosts, they said Elite is the considered the top of the line of Moissanite & that Fire version is a lesser quality. Then, while reading this forum, I see no mention of "Elite" or "Fire". But, I have become curious about Amore and have read that it makes the larger sized Moissanite less warm. Would 6.5mm Moissanite stone be considered a larger size or is the un-enhanced version very white without the Amore? I also, today, while reading thru the forum, seen a picture of a beautiful 9mm Moissanite that is classified as 'Round Old European Brilliant'. From the pictures it is a beautifully cut stone. I believe that one was an Amore, but it is a larger than 6.5mm size that I am interested in getting. Does the 'Round Old European Brilliant' come in 6.5 mm size and with and without enhancement? Another question I have is regarding the color being "J". I don't know enough to know what that even means. What I do know is I am definately going to buy myself a pair of Moissanite studs. For me, they will represent so much more than a new pair of earrings. They will represent me. I plan to wear them every day & everytime I look in the mirror, they will remind me that I matter, that my dreams matter, despite all that I have lived thru for a long, long time.

colors: J refers to a diamond color. See http://www.pricescope.com/forum/rockytalky/photos-of-color-grades-t153008.html photos, Good Old Gold, and Diamonds by Lauren for more pics. 6.5mm is about the size of a 2ct round diamond. So, maybe you don't want that large, even. For nursing, I'd go smaller like the equivalent of a .5ct diamond or smaller. I think .5ct is about 5mm. Moissanite has gotten whiter in the past couple of years. But the sizes 6.5mm and under, if round brilliant shape, have a lot of brilliance and will look "white" but not bright white. Round Old European Brilliant = OEC (old European Cut) -- Moissanite Company sells those in various sizes, but they are not always all in stock. There's some provision for paying a deposit or something to reserve one. The Amora is an added-cost option that heat-treats the Moissanite to make it even whiter. Check out diamondbistro.com, because people buy /sell secondhand jewelry there. You might find a deal. Welcome to the BTD board. :-)

Welcome. Can I suggest that you break your posts into paragraphs-its really hard to read. Adabeta- 6.5mm is roughly equivalent to 1ct not 2ct. That is a large stud earring. Here is a pair on the bistro now... 2ctw martini stud earrings

Hi Colette I am the new proud owner of the 9mm OEC Amora Moissanite. I would definitely recommend the 'Old European Brilliant' (aka: OEC) cut over the classic Round Brilliant cut. You can order them through Schubach's or MoissaniteCo. Schubach's: http://shopping.schubachstore.com/?gclid=CLegvoGNyq8CFcXc4AodO22dZg&match_type=&engine=google&keyword=%28joe+schubach%29 MoissaniteCo: moissaniteco.com The Amora process makes the stones a bit whiter, but for a 6.5mm I wouldn't personally pay the extra fee to have the process done. Currently ONLY MoissaniteCo offers the Amora enhanced stones. I hope you are able to have your dreams come true! I would LOVE to see a pair of Schubach's Fleur de Lis earrings with 6.5mm OEC's (on their homepage)!

I wanted to weigh in about Elite vs. Fire moissanite from JTV. They are essentially the same stones in each collection. The difference is in the metal used for the mountings. Elite moissanite are all set into 14K gold. The Fire collection is set in a mixture of sterling silver, platinum and a "secret" third ingredient. Charles Winston represents the Fire collection. If you want a less expensive pair of earrings, you could go for the Fire instead of Elite. However, I really felt your heart and your desire for a pair of stud earrings, and I think you should go for the gold. Also, 6.5mm studs are a perfect size. Don't go smaller.

Thank you for all the replies. I have been spending time researching moissanite (cuts, sizes, etc.) I am definately getting round brilliant studs & I am going with the 6.5mm size. While reading on the Moissanite & Co website, I also read that the 6.5mm is their most popular studs size.
Now, I have one more decision to make & hopefully some here will have experience & opinions. I will be getting 14K white gold settings, with a lock post, but I am unsure which style setting to get. I really like the Fleur de Lis setting, but will that setting let in the most light for optimal sparkle of the Moissanite stone? Or, would the martini style allow more light? I am also curious about the prongs. Some options allow for 3 or 4 or more prongs. Will the prongs lower the sparkle effect or are the prongs purely for stone safety?
I am so excited!! I will be ordering my studs later this week. My birthday is also in April, so these will also be my birthstone earrings, too.
