goodmorning..I was told by my jeweler friend that if I order a moissanite that to reset the stone they have to heat up the prongs on my ring, and that the moissanite will change color..sometimes not going back to as clear??? How do I replace my stone if this is the case?? Can Amora be heated up??

I recall either Mike or MrsMike saying that Moissanite can take MORE heat than a diamond (not to say that it should be heated!).

There is a thread somewhere about taking your moissy to the jeweler and handling...of course I can't ever find it when I'm looking for it...

OK, here's one thread and the quote from Less

Quote:
BorisMom is correct - just inform them it is Moissanite, watch the girdles and don't overheat it.

Note that setting the stone does not involve heat - heat is only needed for resizing and welding the prong head in, both of which are done before setting the center stone.

Also, the enhanced stone heat thing you read refers to the Serenity process b/c it has a quartz coating.

The Amora enhanced has no coating, it is part of the stone, so heat is not as much an issue since Moissanite is pretty heat tolerant.

But it still makes sense to protect the stone from heat regardless since there is no upside to heating it and precautions are easy (i.e. the only results from overheating are no damage, or damage...there is no chance it will be improved).

Thus, tell them to protect it from heat like it was a diamond, and you are set.

Hope that helps,
Less
