I have been buying jewelry since childhood. At first they were some silver pieces and inexpensive trinkets, and then when I started working I started buying gold and authentic gems.

The accumulating continued through the years, until I discovered ebay and parted with some things. Then came my divorce and I continued parting, mostly with gold when it rose so much in price.

I still have a large collection by some standards, and have some pieces that I don't wear. But they are the "best" of what I had, and I still like them a lot. Also, some of these pieces are heavy and substantial, and I feel that by parting with them, my collection will grow smaller and I won't be able to buy myself nice things that replace them later on.

I have a big expense coming and could use the money, yet I don't feel comfortable selling. Any advice?

Edited to fix because my ipad went crazy on me and posted just the opening sentence.

I would like to have about $10,000 pesos (about $800 USD) saved up.

I have a bracelet which I used to wear a lot but the clasp broke. I have the matching necklace as well, and wouldn't want to break them up. I also have a bracelet that my parents gave me on my 18th birthday that is a panther style in yellow gold, and it is 7 inches, which fits tight on my wrist with no room to mkve, yet I feel like if I parted with it I would regret it someday. I also have a kunzite and diamond set that is very pretty, yet I don't wear, and so on....

Maybe make chart and list everything on it in order of how often you wear it. Also rank its sentimental value and whether or not you might plan to pass it down to a daughter or daughter-in-law.

Those that rank the lowest consider selling.

I am not really a seller; it would make me sad. There are things I would sell for, however... but they would have to be big and serious things for the life of my family. If you are attached and don't want to sell, I would look at other options first. Some things are truly irreplacable.

Well, I want to reach a sales milestone in my etsy shop so I put up a coupon code, hope there are takers and I can make the money from that. I looked through all my things earlier today and therre are a couple pieces I might not mind parting with.

I'm not really that attached with some of the others, but there are some big pieces, like a white gold necklace that weights over 30 grams. I got that years ago on ShopNBC for around $300, to replace it now with a similar piece, with the cost of gold these days, it would be thousands. I don't want to get rid of my nice pieces, since I have already sold a lot.

Then I have my priceless treasures, such as the pearl earrings my dad got my mom when they were dating and she wore on their wedding day, or the necklace I have with girl and boy charms engraved with my kids' names and birth dates. I got each charm when they were born. Those have massive sentimental value!
