Its just unbelievable.. I expect this type of thing from DN but not from C&C.

Funny, the folks at Investor Village feel this lab report is vindication of all the claims Less has made (and substantiated!) concerning FB. They are *thrilled* that the stones are G color.

It's interesting over there, that's for sure.

I just hope they don't ruin *all* moissanite. I want to still have the option of getting untreated moissy!

Ah, the glowing accolades for GLA, the lab CTHR has chosen to partner with for Forever Brilliant grading, keep rolling in:

An article here from 2007 titled "Inflated appraisals" by an AZ news station found:

"Tens of thousands of dollars worth of jewelry at a Phoenix auction turned out to be worth a fraction of their written appraisals."

Quote:

Wolf was concerned so 3 On Your Side contacted Craig Lynch, a local appraiser, who not only has nearly 20 years of experience, but he's also the director of the Arizona Jewelers Association.

He agreed to take a look at some of the jewelry Wolf had bought at the auction and what he found was exactly what Wolf feared.

"The value is so exaggerated it's astounding!" Lynch said.

For example, Lynch examined a ruby ring Wolf bought and discovered the appraisal is nowhere near what the ring is actually worth.

"I appraised it at $2,250," Lynch said. "The appraisal from the auction had it at $10,517."

"Saying the overall stone is very good is so far from the truth," Lynch said. "It's carving material."

Much of the jewelry Wolf purchased from Auction Systems' warehouse had been appraised by one company, a business called Gemological Laboratory of America based in the Los Angeles area.

According to Wolf's appraisal certificates, two gemologists at the company signed off on the appraisals, but 3 On Your Side has learned one of them is not even a gemologist as he claims.

After refusing to talk to 3 On Your Side, we took a trip to Los Angeles to get the answers.

What we found is that Gemological Laboratory of America is no laboratory at all. It was actually a small, non-descript office suite where no one cared to talk.

According to Los Angeles County court records, the president of Gemological Laboratory of America, Christina Mendoza, has been sued numerous times over the past few years for a number of money-related issues and even breach of contract.

I added in the bold/underlines for emphasis, full article at the link here - Inflated appraisals investigation .

And this review from a customer of GLA titled "Vastly inflated value appraisals":

Quote:
Purchased a ring at auction that came with a GLA estimated retail value of approx. $18,500; when I had it independently appraised it was valued at about $600. I would not take a GLA appraisal into account when purchasing any type of jewelry or gemstones.

Anyway, I think we've very fully established GLA's grading abilities. Why CTHR has chosen this to be their grading lab of choice for their ForeverBrilliants? I'll leave that for you to decide.

I'd love to get a look at the other grading reports. But my guess is with the GLA one being so positive, we'll never see the other ones. Very disappointing.
Also, Investors Village CHTR is very interesting. No one at all has questioned the GLA report or has asked about the other promised grading reports.

Roxy, they won't care about any real reports. If you've read much over there at all you know that some of the investors are upset by FB. They don't think C&C should be trying to improve moissanite at all. Cut is not important, color is not important....that is what they think. I think they are NUTS, lol.

Improvements such as the FB are not cheap. They require a complete overhaul and are huge investments. This is concerning for shareholders because when they bought the company, they are buying that the company produces unenhanced moissanite. Now that the company is changing its products significantly, it's obviously concerning the shareholders. Would all the expense of the product improvement outweigh the benefits?

To us customers, we care about product improvements. Because we buy the products. But the company has to maintain a balance in pleasing their customers and their shareholders. To the shareholders, the important thing is obviously their company. If their expenses sky rockets and their sales stay the same, their net income will be lower. This will be concerning for the future investors--after all, why invest in a company that doesn't create good profits?

So this might explain the lack of concern in Investor Village. Since I have interned at finance investment departments at large firms in the islands, let me just say that it is a tough balance to maintain the triage of company, shareholders, and customers. ^_^

If customers are concerned with cut and color of moissy then the shareholders should be on board with FB. Keeping the customers happy is ultimately a good thing for shareholders.

Most of the conversations are not about the cost outlay for improvements but a discussion about how moissy should avoid looking like diamonds, that it should not be marketed to people who buy diamonds, that people who buy it because it is 'diamond like' have no real appreciation for moissanite and are somehow betraying the essence of moissanite as a gem.

I think they are full of hooey on that point. People like diamonds. People like clear, firey, sparkling, well cut and proportioned stones over stones that are commonly thought to be the color of SNOT. Customers also like colored gems (snot is not an acceptable color) but the clear preference in the market is for diamonds.
And lets talk about cutting. Not only are some of the moissy cuts far from being excellent there are some cuts that just don't work with moissy at all because of the color problems. Amora and FB can do something of an improvement for color but it is such an issue that still not all cuts work with moissy.

If those stockholders were smart they would be supportive of FB because it is closer to what the majority of customers seem to want, whiter, brighter and yes, more DIAMOND like moissanite.

*I do appreciate moissanite for what it is but I still chose an Amora moissy to avoid any green color. I understand that not all moissy shows this color but enough of it does that I didn't want to take the chance. Less is running out of decent moissanite to use for Amora so I can only imagine what is left in the pool now. shocked

Now that Less has developed Amora Gem I don't think C&C had any choice but to take a chance and try to whiten their moissanite. Unfortunately, it may be too little too late, especially with the direction they are going with marketing and the less than impressive lab results on their FB stones.

I thought some of their customers like unenhanced moissanites for their color? Actually prefer it?
