Wink set my last stone and it was a winkcz into an older ring with a fishtail head. The cost for setting was either $45 or $50. HTH

Let me answer from a jeweler's standpoint:

Depends on the size and shape of the stone and how it is being set (prongs, bezel, flush, etc.). Certain shapes are more difficult to set because of the danger of chipping or breaking off a corner (liability cost), larger stones cost more to set because most jewelers guarantee their work (replacement cost), and some settings cost more to set because of the time involved (labor cost). The type of stone being set actually is immaterial to the cost because the aforementioned costs exist regardless if you are set a natural fancy vivid blue diamond or a cubic zirconia. A responsible jeweler will let you know if there is any risk to the stone before it is set and make sure you understand it beforehand.

Last thing I had set was a 6mm ruby in a filigree setting, it cost $35.

Wink and DK both set for $50. I actually asked a local jeweler how much it would be to set a 2ct. stone and they told me it would be $150!!! I won't be going there!

I've been quoted everything from $40 to $125 locally for simple 4-prong settings.

Where I live, its about $100 and again, like with sizing, they guarantee nothing! You have to sign a waiver and if they break your stone its just too bad.

Then again, I live in a place where you have to have multiple background and credit checks, provide your past 15 yrs of rental history, pay $50 for the privilege of the investigation and give a $2000 deposit for a studio apartment! California is "special"

I went to a local, large jeweler when I had my diamond set. It was $75 to set and then another $35 for rhodium BUT my diamond was covered under THEIR insurance for breakage! From what I here, that is not the norm, but I guess it does exist and made me feel better about having it set.

My local jeweler charges $10 to set CZ, and $25 to set a diamond/emerald or other precious stone. But.... I live in a podunk, so his prices are lower than average.
