Baby name trouble

I'm not sure if this is in the right place, so I apologize ahead of time. I am having a terrible time trying to find a name for this baby girl. I bought a baby name book, read all girls names A-Z didn't like a single one. I like names that are off the beaten path, but people give me weird looks when I mention an example. Also, I have a real "cutesy" last name, so any girl name I like ends up sounding like, excuse me, a stripper name. I'm at my wits end! I literally am just sick of thinking about it, and thats not how I want it to be. Does anyone here have any not so popular name suggestions?

I really liked Paisley Mae, but my mom has made fun of it so much that its ruined. I like Quinn, but hubby doesn't like it. Theres a very, very unusual celeb baby name I like, Alabama Gypsy Rose. I know its weird and crazy but I think its got a good ring to it. I also have 3 nieces whose names I'd like to steer clear of. It's so hard!

i *love* Paisley Mae! that's lovely!
but my only even remotely helpful suggestion is to consider what she'll be called
like, if her name should be Alabama Gypsy Rose (also pretty, btw) but you call her Rose.... every year on the first day of school her teacher will call her Alabama and she'll have to correct them.
beyond that.... any name you consider, run it through the Banana-Fana song to see if you can come up with whatever unfortunate nickname might come from it. children are unbelievably cruel.
an example? my friend named her son Tucker. imagine her horror the first time she heard his friends singing his name with the Banana-Fana song. inconsequential, maybe, but it's best to consider how hard it is to be a kid, without adding to it.
i'm SO grateful that my name, simple as it is, was difficult to come up with insulting nicknames to go with it. like, the worst thing kids ever came up with was "The Daner" which, well, i still answer to.

My mom didn't like DD's name either but I named her anyway. She got to name her kids, I get to name mine!! I think Paisley Mae is wonderful and if you love it then go for it! We don't have to listen to our mom's forever. Paisley Mae....yup, it sounds better every time I say it!!

With your "cutesy" last name, have you considered maybe using a unisex name that may be stronger?

I'm sorry your mom is being cruel. All the more reason to not consider her opinion. Shame on her for how she is behaving...I hate to see parents manipulating their grown children like that. Besides, what is she going to do if you actually name your daughter Paisley? Is she going to mock and laugh at her own grandaughter?!?!? Is she going to introduce her and invite people to mock her name? Do you want me to call your mom?
