Goldilocks scenario - help!

Hi all, Well, I can't seem to get my hands on a 8mm kashmir cushion, so my only options are a 9mm or 7mm. So, it's the goldilocks scenario LOL. My finger size is about an 8, so I know I can get away with more. I'm curious what y'all think of this 9mm in a halo mock up? Too big? Just right? I don't want it to look gaudy. If I need to get a 8mm light ceylon until they get more 8mm kashmirs, I guess that's an option. The mock up is not actual size once I put it in photobucket for some reason. The pic I have on my computer is my actual hand and stone size. I think it's just a smaller version of both, but should still have the same look. I have a 9x7.5mm cushion ring that I put on the bistro. I would put it on my finger to show y'all how the size looks, but it's a 5, so I can only get it above my knuckle LOL. It's a nice size stone though and looks good to me. This is obviously bigger, so I'm nervous and would love your thoughts! The 9mm The 7mm

The 9mm looks good to me. Not at all gaudy.

How did I know you'd chime in first, jcent?! LOL! It's going to be very low set in a halo. The halo part is what makes me nervous. The stone by itself I can handle. The halo will add another 2mm to each side. Oh and the paper around it was my pathetic excuse for a halo .

LOL! hmmm, that does make it bigger, but I still do not think gaudy. It will be big though. But it will be big with 8mm too... 12mm or 13mm spread??? It is really close.

True! Sigh! I'm having a ring custom made, so I want to be sure it's going to be the right size. The ring will have prongs, but having a halo will limit me if I wanted to go down in stone size, kwim? There's always a 7mm, but I think shrinkage sat in before I even got chance to mull that over too much LOL. It's funny though, I'm not the big stone type. The biggest diamond I've had was .75ct and the biggest sim was 7mm LOL. I just really love this blue and figure since it's a colored stone, I have more leeway .

I'm not one of those bigger-is-better people, and even I don't think this looks too big. It's a really great balance on your hand.
If it was a big ol white stone it would be too much for my personal taste, but there's something about colored stones that I think you can go so much bigger without it seeming as flashy or overbearing.
I also love the ratio of color to white halo. There's just enough halo to give it a feminine feel, but not so much that it feels chunky overall.
It's "just right," Goldilocks!

LOL! Thanks, Hadley! I know, I feel the same way about colored stones. The halo will be 2mm, unless 1.5mm would be better? I'm stuck between those two sizes. The current halo I'm selling has a 2mm halo (I've attached a pic below) and it looks nice. I wish I could post a pic with it in the right place on my finger LOL. The custom halo design I'm going with is lacy, which lots of milgrain, so I'm not sure which size would be best. Jcent, was it you that I saw a picture of the 10mm on your hand? What did you decide to do with it? The 2mm regular halo (THIS IS NOT THE RING I'M HAVING MADE) I can't wait to show y'all the cads! I should have them monday.

I hate to break it to ya but the 9 is perfect. Poor thing. Lol!
I needed an 8 too, 9 was too big on me with a halo. So I feel ya on wanting an 8, but the 9 looks great on you! It really does! Lucky duck !
