My ering is palladium...the stacker ring is 18k over sterling.
I bought it to keep the ring a little snugger until we get married but when I was cleaning it yesterday I noticed it looks like it now has a "brushed" finish on it in a perfect circle around the ring..right where they met on my finger. I tried silver polish with a slight improvement but this is freaking me out.I just want to cry! cry I've had her for a little over a week! Will this etching polish out? And would a palladium stacker ring do the same thing? Can I put sizing beads on a euro shank ring? I don't want to size it smaller (maybe 1/4 size down? because I know it'll fit fine with the wedding band but that's not going on until next December. Please advise all you jewelry geeks...(Love you all! :))

Sounds like the 18k plating has worn offin places. Im sure it's only you that can notice it? I have a sterling with platinum plating and it did the same in contact areas...

Good luck!

Wearing any 2 rings beside each other will cause wear. Because on is plated, that plating will wear much faster. Beside Pd, your best bet is a Pd band or a plat band. They will "hurt" each other the least.

Not sure but I think she is referring to scratches on the Palladium ring? (not the silver one)? If so, I love the finish that I now have on my palladium ring - it just makes it look even better to me. I think any two rings of any metal will make that brushed mark you speak of. Usually, I wear my band or my ering (one or the other)...then, when I go out...I might stack them...or wear one on each hand. I don't think there is a way to avoid it...but over time that patina will be consistent all over on the ring...in a good way :0)

yes...the etching is on my palladium ring...it almost looks like it has a satin finish? I've read about the metal developing a patina and I really don't have a problem with that but only after a week? I'm fairly certain the cause was the stacker. So, a palladium stacker won't be so harsh?

Pd beside it will be better yes. It is mixing metals that makes it worse. I wear my 2 plat rings beside each other all the time, and are 6 months old, and there is still no patina.

That makes me feel better. I'm going to get her polished then I'll probably order a palladium stacker I found on Etsy.

even rings of the same metals will cause this over time, just the nature of the beast.
