Does anyone own a ring with some diamonds in the head/prongs by any chance?

I'm trying to get some ideas together for my next project & came across this ring which I love, BUT don't know if that's a disaster waiting to happen in the future or what? I think it's GORGEOUS, but not sure how delicate the head would be & don't want to loose diamonds from the prong/head later you know?

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this ladies... Should I go for it? Or will I be crying later lol!

I do, and think it is fine. You are careful with your rings, generally right? It does make me more cautious, but I haven't had any issues yet. smile

you already know my opinion :P

i think it's a bad idea, and an additional, unnecessary, expense.

i mean, how often will you see the undersides of the prongs when you're wearing the ring... and if you're going to wear a band with it, i can't imagine a way that it won't damage one or the other.

I totally agree with Dana. If I were to put little diamonds in a ring, it would be a halo or in the band, not the underside and prongs. You can get more ring (bigger center/heavier gold) if you keep it simple with the details.

I don't think you'd have to treat it any more carefully than you would any other pave ring. If anything, I'd imagine that the melee in the band or halo would be more likely to get knocked around and fall out than those on the struts. The only stones I'd be worried about are the bottom two on the struts, which might rub against a wedding band. I think a lot of the ladies on PS who have this style ring purchase an inexpensive, super-thin spacer band because the pave on their ering will "eat" the metal on their wedding band.

Just to offer an opinion on the other side, I LOVE rings with fancy galleries/struts. To me, it's the icing on the cake, and those little design details are what distinguish really high-end rings. I feel like the profile of a ring is just as important as the head-on view. You might not be able to see the profile quite as well when you're wearing the ring, but depending on how high the setting is, you'll still see it plenty often.

Im having Wink and Melissa make my ering and its going to have stones on the prongs. They cautioned me that if i use a cz-based center stone that if the prongs ever loosen or a stone falls out (not that it def will happen but just in case) it would be more difficult to fix bc the cz cant handle the heat that it would take to fix it (this wouldnt be a problem with moissy or diamond, however). So fixing would involve removing then resetting the center stone.

Im going with an asha for now and they said that it should hold up fine for the few years till the Gem comes out.. Then no worries once we switch it out smile

Moral of the story: if you are thinking of a cz-based center stone as your "forever" stone, maybe no diamonds on the prongs

I personally like the look of diamonds on the struts of a ring. I don't think its necessary for you to have a beautiful ring, but it is the kind of finishing detail that helps to make a ring a little extra special. Now, after saying that, I still don't have a ring with diamonds on the struts, but would consider doing it in the future if I had a little extra cash to spare.

I just realized that it might have seemed like I was saying that a ring HAS to have a fancy gallery/profile to seem high-end, which was poor wording on my part. I've seen many wonderfully designed settings (I'm thinking a Leon solitaire or three-stone) that were beautiful in their simplicity. I just meant that, as Ginger said, those finishing details can sometimes make all the difference, so if your budget allows for it and you love the look, go for it! smile

Thank you so MUCH for all your feedback ladies laugh

You ladies have mentioned some VERY valid points! Yeah I know it's not necessary to have those lil diamonds there, but it is icing on the cake for me. The more bling the better lol wink Even though I'd prolly be the only one who ever notices it, I'm okay with that hehe. I do plan on getting a halo & having diamonds go 3/4 way down on the shank so maybe that's enough diamonds so I won't need to add anymore to the prong/head...

The one IMPORTANT thing I didn't counter in with this idea is the fact that I'm going to have the center stone replaced once the Amora Gem comes out & I'm sure it won't be a pretty situation when the jeweler tries to remove the current stone & put in the new one. I'm sure it will stress one of the diamond pave prongs up & could been a nightmare later for me!

Now it's time to look for a different gallery for my ring. Anyone have any suggestions? I haven't been able to find any galleries on halo rings I absolutely love yet. This ring was the only gallery I like for a halo design & since I'm not going to go for this prong/head anymore, that changes everything crazy

what about... initials, or a monogram? your name, your husband's name?

in either a simple, pretty font, or a really elaborate monogram?

in my quick search i haven't found any images like what i'm thinking, but something based loosely off of :

or this, where instead of the trefoil you had letters:

...like the inside of this band, but tucked underneath the outer gallery portion of the ring :
