I am glad it helped wink

It *is* important to make sure you dont have a nickle allergy, good point. I do, and cant wear 14k. My finger rashes up in a day, and in my ears...YUK sick Do you know someone with a 14k ring you can borrow for a few days? Keep it on for a while and see what happens... Pd and plat are hypo allergenic, so that is a plus on that side.

My wedding ring was solid platinum 6mm wide at the top and 3mm at the bottom. It never had a super high gloss and got its patina quickly. The patina is sought after by many platinum lovers, so IMO, it's ability to be polished to a high shine is kind of a moot point, really, since it patinas so quickly. plus, platinum is so heavy!

I love gold, and I don't care when the rhodium wears off. But Melrose, rhodium plating isn't too expensive, but if you like bright, and have especially acidic skin you may want it touched up more often than you might think. My emerald ring is 3+ yrs old and has never been replated. It's under the gemstone board titled "emerald city" if you want to see how 18kt looks with the plating worn off on the shank.
More to consider...metal allergies, and ease of repair if needed. Tough choice!

1:27 am and the battle of the sexes rages on. Now he's pro Palladium and I'm vehemently demanding white gold. I will give in and let him get it in Palladium my head is swimming lol. Thanks for all the replies.

I'm going palladium for a few set of reasons:

1) Most imporantly, the metal doesn't wear down/off. This is super important to me as I want it to be a lifetime ring, and survive generations of our family hopefully. According to JbEG, the VAST majority of rings that survive through the years are palladium or platinum. Gold, unfortunately, just isn't the forever metal that I think it is portrayed to be..

2) No rhodium plating. Not a huge deal, but it was something to think about nonetheless because of the fact that I would like to keep my ring out of the jewelers as much as possible.

3) I don't want to pay for platinum, although that would be ideal. And for me, I wouldn't trust anybody else with my ring but the bench that made it, so I don't mind sending it off for repairs, as I would have done that regardless of the metal I chose. Nobody will know the ring, or keep the style perfectly in tact, the way the bench who created it will.

I HAD my wedding set in 18K gold and got sick of it needing re-rhodiuming (i wear my rings all the time!) so I had them recast in Palladium. My old setting was starting to show pitting and wear to the band too. The Palladium has held up wonderfully. I will say, I have many white gold rings too and putting them side by side you reallt can't tell the difference in the metals. I wouldn't really call palladium "white"-it is still grey. It will NOT hold a shine-if that matters to you. I had my rings back at the jewlers two months ago to be polished and they are already back to their original patina. I think it really behaves like platinum. That said, if you are going micro pave palladium will give you way more strength and peace of mind with that setting. You are less likely to lose some melee stones with palladium.
I love both metals, not one more than another. They each have their benefits and drawbacks.....
Palladium-strong! no wear and tear, BUT not high polish
Gold-Can polish higher and look that way longer, it is the go to metal, BUT, it is weaker and will need upkeep.
Hope this helps!

See here and here.

I'm a huge palladium fan, and if I purchase or have any custom work done, I always go with palladium. Most of my pieces that I wear on a daily basis are platinum and palladium, and I have never encountered any problems with them. I also disagree with the "lightweight" description. While it is nowhere as heavy as platinum, I have not found any of my palladium rings to feel any less substantial than those I have in white gold.

As has been mentioned before, it is imperative to find a jeweler that works with palladium. DiamondAngel has stated, Wink's bench doesn't, but there are plenty of other great jewelers that do. MoCo does - and have sized rings I have bought from them with no problem. Images also works with palladium, and their work is impeccable!

My set is in palladium and I love it. There are newer white gold alloys that have less yellow to them, but I found that white gold still has a yellow tone to it (that's why people get it rhodium plated).
The patina for paladium is really just a soft mellowing of the shine, not a change in color (like the verdigris patina it sounds like you saw when you googled the word). Personally, that was something I really enjoyed about the "mettle" when I chose it.

Or if you just want a quick summary of pics from new, to 1 year to about 2 1/2 years
http://betterthandiamond.com/discussion/...your#Post642942 .

Both the wedding band & eRing are palladium, I've been really happy with the wear, the color, and the slowly developing patina. The wedding ring is getting patina'd a little faster which surprises me because I wear it on the inside.
Band was from Union Diamonds, eRing by Moissco
